Yea I'm looking for a good build. Nothing to extravagant, might be doing some light gaming, photoshop work, c4d, but mostly just everday use of IM and surfing. Budget is about $700 though I can go a bit over. Need everything, monitor, speakers, OS. Thanks in advance.
...waits for OLJ to post an AMD CPU/board... admittedly some of his builds especially on the low budget are decent aside form the PSU e4400 2GB RAM cheap board cheap case cheap PSU seagate 7200.11 harddrive 7600GT/x1650XT DVD burner let me dig some mroe I'll get back to you I'm lazy/sleepy
Heres something that might work you'd have to go soundless and use linux tho Small build then again some modification could be possible to include windows but who wants that piece of junk
when the very first company you listed has 1/3 units fail within 2 years and the second comany overcharges by around 50% I think you begin to loose credibility. name one isntance where people here have recomended a combination of parts which don't work(and weren't noobs/were immediately caleld out for it)
Lenovo = IBM = Win! My Lenovo thinkpad is the greatest portable achievement man has to date. Also, building yourself is always much better, provided you can get it right.
you do realize that lenovo != IBM... wait guess not. see lenovo uses the IBM name. they generate more sales. they pay IBM a percentage.
I wanted to build it myself mostly just for ----s and giggles but the added fact that I could getter a potentially better system didn't hurt either. So is this what I should look for what Xlink posted? Because I'm gonna be sending these specs to my dad to order for me soon.
To be honest if you arent doing heavy gaming, applications....then you dont need to touch 700$, you can have a great PC for about 3-400$ (no monitor) Mid range graphics, dual core CPU (might as well, runs more efficiently than older ones), regular case, whatever... Video Card: GeForce 7600GT $89.99 CPU: Intel E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz $83.99 Motherboard:ASUS P5VD2-MX SE LGA 775 $59.99 Those are some good parts....not sure about the motherboard, might want to not skimp in that area, but it all really comes down to your needs, do you want Dual Channel RAM? SLi Compatibility? -Hiro

Swap xelinks mobo with this one and i'd go with his build: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138075 Reason I would not go with ohms: c2ds overclock better, crucial ballistix has d9 for sure (better clocker), psu seems to be bad: src: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRevie...N82E16817152028 and dont forget both buils still need a monitor, keyboard and mouse. recommend logitech mx518, fast 17" tft and simple kb.
