I've only read the credits/rep part..

I don't think rep's need ot be removed, it is a reputation, if people like you your reputation will become higher so people also will give you some more reputation.

I don't see why reputation needs to have something to do with ginvinf out stuff for free?

    Eh?

I'm talking about invalid reputations, such as <3 or something, those things really need to be removed to be fair.

You need to earn reputation. Example, girls seem to get more rep than boys. Is that fair? No. So just getting rep in general should not be allowed, because there is no reason for it.

Honestly, selling credits for money is a good thing imo. Its making Gr more well known, and its actually giving people a reason to stay. I have gotten better in my gfx endeavour over the year ive been here, and its because i sell my stuff to see what people like.

Now, i can understand the real life money issue. When people scam others out of money, thats bullcrap imo. just because you have the option to, why do it? I mean, i sell my credits and tags and everything for real money, but why, WHY do you feel the urge to scam people? It always turns around and bites you in the ass...

Crews is another thing, but i really don't think you can say we dont help. My crew is making a magazine along with another crew, which iwll be published monthly, and given out for a small fee. i am also working on getting my psd pack ready, and have already given out a nice resource site.

I do agree, that the crew section needs to be pruned. there are too many innactive crews, and some get maybe 1-2 posts a week. honestly, i agree some need to go.

Sorry, just wanted to rebuttle your ideas :)

Very Nice, i agree to almost everything...but what coght my eye was the credit for money problem....this is true...credits should not be a real life currancy whcih it has become. But for the crew situation i think that there should be a maximum amount of crews...or sumthing to keep crews at a minimum amount. Rep i think is very hard to fix. You will always have those people that have friends saying "hey, can you +rep me so i get ## amount of reps...and so on...i deffinantly agree that Rep Is Abused...i honasly do not see how we could fix it...theres allways cheaters.

But for the tutorials i think there should still be an aucton forum because its just a common thing. Auctions are a way to sel your item. But i deffinantly Support Free Tutorials, PSD's. ect...

Nicely put... However I think that some of those things you have mentioned may just kill GR. For starters, not being able to sell credits for money. While I have mixed views on that, I believe that taking that away from GR would be very much the same as making cigarettes illegal and unable to be sold within the United States. Not only would it promote under the counter trading and scamming (which staff could do nothing about if under the counter), but it would take away some peoples, meaning the resource creators, incentive to be here. If the people who make the signatures and tutorial and website templates to sell for credits to in turn sell for 'real-life money', leave because they cannot make money anymore, it is basically like severing the food chain. The consumers who buy those products cannot now get those products here, so why be here? Why not find another place where they can get them? Most of the consumers get there credits in one of four ways.

    1. Completing tasks for another members. (Whether it be fulfilling a render request, or taking part in a 'war game' clan website banner contest, they get their credits by helping out other people in the community. Most of the time, doing it for credits so they can buy that --- signature/tutorial they want by that --- artist).
    2. Buying credits for USD. (These kids come to the forum with their parents money, or their own hard earned money from mowing lawns or whatever they like to do, and buy some credits so they can buy a tutorial to expand on their photoshop skills).
    3. Competing in events such as RotW and SotW, and other site contests. (Where do these credits go? Into the ---'s pockets to sell for USD)
    4. Buying and reselling resources, or selling their own. (Most start out with only a few thousand, made by one of the first 3 ways to get credits, and use that to buy their first signatures, reselling them for more).

Now while I am sure people get money from other places, such as donations from friends, and asking for it from a rich member, and I am aware not everyone makes their credits this way, but....... do you notice something about each of these ways to get credits? They all branch back to the people that make and sell the resources to make money for their own benefit. Take them away and GR will fall into a state of depression. I do however agree, that in the long run this could and would be great for GR. But it would be a pretty long run.

As for reputation. I agree with you on the most part, but the staff doesn't have the time to enforce reputation laws. There are 70000 members, and with some members having 0, and other members having 400+, I can only estimate that the average reputation ammount per member is 10. So 70000x10, that is 700000 reputations to go through. Do you have the time?

I pretty much agree with the rest of your post about crews and such. I fully support free tutorials and resources.

Also for the retired staff userbar:

Nansta made that one a while ago and you don't seem to care too much for it?

From what I can see it is basically flawless, and it fits the other staff userbars.

Yeah fair enough. The thing is, people do scam, it's inevitable, and I just don't think GR needs that. I'm glad that you've learnt from selling your stuff for rl money, but it's not what GR is meant to be like. RL and virtual money should not cross. It means wealthy people can have an advantage, this is a graphics forum after all. People are meant to help people, not sell their monotonous tutorials for real life cash.

The crew thing was actually more of a question than a rant. Thanks for enlightening me, but why do we need so many crews?

@ gacus. No I didn't have Kirbir in mind, and yes, Draven does have alot of rep. But if you look at most of the females on this boards reputation, even excluding Girly and Kirbir (because they do actually deserve most of thier rep) you still see favouritism within boys giving more rep to girls. They are trying to hit on them, it's obvious, they say certain stuff like <3, which is what I was saying. Do boys do that to boys? Errm...generally no.

The selling for credits really should stay, It's the only way for me to earn some money, I'm 14 and can't get a job ( Need to be 16 ) So I also would like to earn some extra money.

Maybe girls do get more reps, but that because people like them, they have a good reputation and people show that vy +repping them.

I suppose it's a good way to make money. But it's turning this into a business, is that what it's meant to be? Now we have to pay to get help? I don't know many other graphics forums which have this principal.

Thats because GR has many members, people like this. So why change it ?

And in real life you also need to pay someone to help you ( GFX Related )

And if thing are free, maybe you should ask for help on other forums,I don't see the problem. Shaggy earns alot, I can earn some money, everyone happy?

I appreciate your post and understand what you are portraying. However, your predictions about how GR will turn out are quite wrong. I was an active member here before credits were allowed to be sold, and there were still many many members-quality members. All tutorials were free, there were renders and people still competed in competitions and completeting requests to get their credits.

Yes, people could still sell credits via PM etc without staff realising, but if this was against the rules, how many people would try it? If no one wanted to get banned they wouldn't do this. There are rules which stand at the moment which people still break, but this has little impact of GR.

Well, sorry but GR isn't a money making site lol. The staff want free resources, hence many of them buying tutorials with their own credits to give away free to the 'public'. If the people who make these resources stop visiting because of this, how would this render the forum downgraded? All these tut writers and sig makers put all their work up for sale anyways, meaning it is not free to the community. If they all went and there were less tutorials for sale, would this be bad? I thought the majority of people wanted free tutorials, and therefore would not mind if all those sig/tutorial makers left once finding they couldn't make their income here.

Not all 4 of those points branch back to the resource makers. Entering SOTW does not mean you need to buy something of a resource maker. Completing requests doesn't mean you have to buy anything either.

Would stopping the buying of credits and buying and reselling sigs/tutorials really stint the forum? It wouldn't stop people being helpful and creating free tutorials, or renders, or free resources, and, if anything, make more people make more free resources.

Yes, I'm aware the staff doesn't have time to go through every members reputation, and I am not suggesting that. Simply that they crack down on this matter, and make punishments more severe, and be on more of a look out, since this seems to be a popular complaining issue.

Note: The opinions in the following post are those of the individual and do not express the views held by the rest of the staff nor do they represent actions that may/will be done.

Agreed. However we have gone through numerous people's accounts pruned invalid reputation. I know at the time some members had lost 10-15% of the their reputation scores. It's a daunting task to keep up with it and I believe we're starting to control the spread of invalid -rep's although a lot of work needs to be done on the aspect of +rep's.

This is a sensitive subject, as many people come here as they have the ability to make real money. Currently it appears we're fence sitting. There is a divide between those who believe we should stop selling and those who want to make money. Attempting to appease both is failing, yet I can see no alternative that would not lead to a mass exodus. Until we're ready to take such a large step or until a solution is created that would appeal to both sides, I am unsure of what direction Gamerenders should head in.

We have too many inactive and seemingly purposeless crews. They however met and paid the "entrance fee" and I feel we should not shut them down without just cause.

I am unsure your proposal would actually solve anything. I think there would still be vasts amounts of similar tutorials being sold.

I do not know the exact cause behind this, if someone can find a solution then I'd hope an admin would implement it. However, until then feel free to PM me and I'll send you a new item.

I do not see an issue with bringing this back.

I really wish your personal vendetta did not appear in this post, I stand by all our hiring.

Sadly I think the spork is necessary.

    I'll talk to logic.

We have had 4 or so magazines that publish one or two articles than disappear, I believe this trend will only continue.

    That's incorrect.

You don't know for a fact all members like this. I, for one, do not, and know many other who share the same views.

I've never paid for help IRL, infact I'm forced to go to school! To learn.

Most of the staff on GR actually do want stuff to be free on here, Girly tries to bring alot of free tutorials in, and many other staff support this, as well as the majority of members.

I'm afraid not everybody is happy with this situation. Free is always better than having to pay. Surely you agree with that?

I really don't see why old staff members should need there own section? Then I also want my own section :P, and there should come sections for crews ETC..
