I'm gonna switch to Mandriva linux and I just wanted to know if there were any downsides to it and the upsides I'm switching from win98 btw
wow, win98...i suggest no linux, but get XP....Linux is a big change, cant have all the programs u need.
Yeh, I would suggest not to switch entirely, but run both, in case you realise you made a big mistake. That's what I'm doing, at the moment. I run Windows XP and Linux CentOS. To run two operating systems you either need them on two seperate hard drives, or you could partition the hard drive. I find that Linux s more stable than windows, but windows can run more of the programs that I want e.g. Photoshop. My advice, be careful
but if u play games, ur going to have to unistall all the game (of course) and then re-install (of course) but then when new games come out, and patches come out are for windows 1st and then like 2-4 weeks later the exact same patch comes out for Linux..but thats only if ur a BIG gamer like me, office and ----.....no clue...
Trust me, if you switch now...just cuz you "feel like it"....then you'll end up regretting it. It'll be a lot of work for you. If you have another computer, i'd try it out on that first.
my old man, is a IT expert, and we have about ohh....5 linux in the house. Uses them for work and ----, but games..Windows XP Pro (not home) and AMD Athlon 64 all the way! P.S. ** DO NOT SWITCH TO WIN 64 BIT!!....U WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN ALL UR PROGRAMS AND NO GAMES**<<programs and games cant run on win64 becuase they werent made at that time>>
