Linux Ubuntu, Worth The Install?

well some of you may or may not now about ubuntu, it is a OS similar to windows, wel i was wondering if anyone is running it? i ordered 5 disks for free and it should be here within 2 weeks, is it worth the switch to anyone running it?

 

Yeah, I like it, but I find myself using Windows much more.

 

question how do i install it i have suse live cd the online instructions say boot ur comp but im a lil lost

 

You can't actually install Linux through a live cd since that is actually a preview, not the full version.

 

well i downloaded the iso files n burned them to cd (isnt that a live cd) can i install that

 

there should be a guide on the site as how to do it, im not quite sure myself as i have never used Linux before

 

guide says boot with 1st cd but i dont know how to boot.

 

A Live CD is Linux, however you can't permanently install it on your system (you can only run it off the disk).

NOTES:
-You can install java on ubuntu. Its not that hard if you know about computers. If you dont have patience and arnt that smart I suggest you stay with windows.
-If you want to reduce your chance of getting a virus or a keylogger bye a LOT then I suggest you get ubuntu
-If you want a cool PC and are tired of windows read this guide.

Step 1:
First you need to get Ubuntu.
Option 1:
Order your CDs, FREE OF CHARGE, go to https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ and get the CD's

THEY ARE FREE!

option 2:
Download the IMG files. and Burn them to a CD

I wouldnt do this. its safer and easier to ship the CD's

Step 2:
insert the CD into your computer. If you are using the shipped CD's you can run it LIVE. which means use linux to see if you like it with an install! how cool is that.

Anyways now To install linux double click on install on the desktop once its on. You can choose to remove everything and install ubuntu or keep windows and ubuntu both on one PC.

Now When you are installing there is nothing you have to do! just watch it install. after an hour you will have to choose a name and a password and set the time.

THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO! BOOM YOU ARE DONE!. If you are using Cable internet its all configured and done for you.

Step 3. Installing ----
Ok so now you wanna use programs like you did on windows.

Go to Applications>Add/Remove.

Here choose any programs you want to install and it will download them. FREE!

dude that doesnt help me im using trying to instal suse linux. My question is how do i install SUSE LINUX on a window xp all the guides say to boot but im lost how do i boot with the cd?

 

stick the Cd in and when your computer starts up make sure to get into your bios, usually f2 or something, then set the boot parameter to IDE drive.

And linux is worth it.

lawl if your guys just gonna do simple ---- that you do on windows then there is not point in switching to linux, and you have to first off know how to use linux cmd style etc...its not as easy as you might think....

 

Make sure you burned the SuSE ISO's in IMAGE format, you can use an xp powertoy called ISO recorder, then put the first cd in your drive and reboot, with my computer it automatically boots from the cd, with some you may need to press a key, usually,f2, del, it differs on the computer manufacturer, you can look it up for your model on google, after you press the key a startup select boot from cd rom or something similar from the menu.
