Okay I am going to be upgrading my brother's computer and isntalling Fedora Core 4 on it. His computer is over five years old so an upgrade is needed and I am going to make it my Linux computer and he'll use it for AIM or GAIM since that's what you use. Okay right now he has an AMD processor 9really bad and over 5 years old) I am not sure which socket it is so I will probably need a new mobo anyway since I want to make it 64 bit. Okay I need someone to help me pick out parts for it. I just want 512-1 gig of ram, AMD 64 bit processor, a nice case, new hard drives, a new psu and good upgradabilty.

What's youre question. And alli h ave to say is if you're buddy wants PS hes not going to get it. He'll be stuck with a crapy "The Gimp" Which is like PS5 only uglier. But it's a great OS, i still dual boot with it.

actually, you can hack PS onto linux it isn't that hard... a lot of people do it.

as for proc, either a 3700+(pref 939 socket) or a 3200+ if you want the extra cache. If cache isn't a big deal just go for the 3000+

as for mobo, almost anything will do but try MSI K8 neo plat, perhaps the one with NVraid and a PCI-e slot

    PSU/CASE, anything that works..

Hardrives try getting two 7200rpm HDDs if you want(for raid 0), or just get one decent one if RAID0 isn't important for you, i hear it is a bitch to setup for linux anyway.
