Which is why I only listen to very few people (Common,Talib Kweli,Lupe Fiasco,MF Doom). Most people base rap/hip hop off of jackasses like 50 cent, or lil wayne and Young Jeezy. Who do the music for the money, just like there are rock stars or w/e that do their music for the money, theres good and bad in genres, but you(generally speaking as a whole) can't base a whole thing off of a couple people.
I don't really have much problems with the racist, repetive lyrics most rappers use, the big problem with rap is that most of it can't be considered music imo... these people don't sing or play an instrument, they don't use soundboards or other means to produce a song, no they just talk (about a lot of crap) with a repetitive boom-boom on the background, and yes I am talking about people like 50 cent here, those people are the face of the genre just like metallica is for (oldschool) metal.
Rap music is music, but it's not really real music. I listen to it some times and I can admit it. Really, if it wasn't for computers, there would be no rap music. The tools you use to make it are not real, in a sorta strange meaning of the world real. And you can consider this valid, no matter what definition you have to argue. I like all kinds of music as long as they are well made, but I do have preference. The whole meaning of music to me is to pass a message (Except for house, which is jusy great for dancing) and if someone can do that in a way you can hear it, it's good music. And don't judge me by my name on this one. Music is also good if you are bored, and I am capable of liking all kinds of it. (Okay country can be a exception). But I won't ever judge a music just because it is in a different style. Just because you don't like rock, it doesn't mean you can't appreciate it. There is a lot to it and I really don't feel like boring you anymore, so see ya.
agreed im that kind of rap fan..and soime rappers make there own beats..and good beats are hard to make and i forgot about trance and that stuff like I love girl talk ok so mabye screaming for that long takes skill..but its like loud noisy nonsense imo....and yeah
Where's the metalhead vs. everybody else option? With rap, it's a combination of problems for me: - Those doing the vocals really don't do much work besides rhyme -- it's almost always computer-done, and most anybody can do it, so long as they get shot in the face nine or ten times a la 50 Cent (just kidding) - It's not really... music. It's almost like techno, only techno might actually involve a bit of work - The whole lifestyle the artists promote, or seem to. Not only is it bulls**t, but what kind of example is it for some twelve year old kid to listen to a guy talking about sex, booze, pot, and murder? With this screamo/hardcore/post-hardcore/emo bulls**t, it's the following: - The content usually sucks. If you want to slot yourself, don't waste my time singing about it. - Most of the bands suck live. - Most of their guitar work is s**t. - I'm not big on the whole screaming thing. Speak, don't blow your vocal chords out. - Again, the example on people. You see these dickheads that idolize people like My Chemical Romance and The Used, want to be just like them, etc. etc., when they're sitting there talking about killing yourself/others because people make fun of you. Life's not that hard; all Mommy made you do is the f**king dishes
i love you ferret make sweet love to me yeah i agree but with GOOD rap, with good beats that were made by the artist and good lyrics...like talib kweli, mos def....and others those rappers treat it like poetry with a beat..thats cool imo
I listen to mostly country. I like how the song actually tells a story and the songs have meaning. Every now and again I'll listen to some metal, but not that ---- where they scream the entire song. And rap.......just no.
