I don't know if i have a right to a opinion on this matter and I'm not trying to side with anyone but a valid statement on why it isn't abstract I'm guessing** from some of the members views is that the tag in mention has a bunch of non abstract parts (ex. person, waterfall, ect.) put together to form something believed to be abstract. Now I'm not saying it isn't abstract or that it is because i feel that the definition of abstract can be bent very far when it comes to design. For someone to say something is or isn't abstract is an opinion because not everyone is gonna agree on it usually. Now i read this whole thread and it makes me wonder how people can get so worked up over what is or is not abstract. If the people in charge of the comp. say it is not then explain your opinion on why you think it is in a mature manner and then if they still disagree then wait till next week and maybe the theme of choice will be something that nobody can second guess you on.

EDIT: I would also like to add personally i feel abstract is something when you look at it you have to guess what it is. If you can clearly see what it is, it really isn't abstract.

Might aswell throw my opinion in here since I'm bored:

Neuron's piece contains an abstract concept, but it is not abstract art in the traditional sense. It all depends on what the original idea behind the theme was, although if you are looking at it from a purely artistical sense then his sig isn't abstract.

There was a shovel hanging from the cieling for one piece of "art" along with other objects stacked up. It's considered "abstract."

I don't get abstract art, so I'm not giving an opinion to the issue, I'm just saying.

If that was in picture form, it would just be considered obscure still life. It was probably considered abstract because it was in real form, which is not a normal medium for art.

i've searched many websites, to check what really IS abstract art. but I still dont see how you can consider his entry abstract, Abstract should consist of various shapes or conceptualobjects that reflect a certain theme (black square etc...) I just dont see how this is abstract at all tbh.

Abstract: thought of apart from concrete realities

Sorry, but how many people do you know that are rainbow colored?

    Just saying.

If this is abstract, (which it IS IMO and you entered it) then why isn't Neuron's? You can clearly see girls and flowers in yours, just like you can see that it's a girl in Neuron's.

When I hear abstract, it's about taking someone's artwork, and being able to imagine something, that it isn't. But with the lines, shapes, colors, and textures, the "abstract" creation should be able to feed me with an image in my head of something relative to a human reality.

You may or may not agree with my opinion, of course, I stand bye it and I believe it's true.

You don't need C4D to spawn something from line's and shapes, but it is a good tool to use when you want a 3D, and what was once, a unique look.

Mantis is right, MOTM's entry isn't technically abstract art either.

my original was, but after i saw that they were letting others slide i changed it to that last minute as its a better tag, i dont think its abstract either but still.

abstract is not: thought of apart from concrete realities

because that would make any unrealistic piece of art, an abstract, what you wrote is more like surrealism
