I plan to get an ipod classic soon, but i have a few questions about iTubes before i go ahead and use it. (yes im aware you can use 3rd party programs) 1. My music on on a different partition to my c drive (its on D drive). Can i point itunes to use my music from there? ie, D:\Music 2. My music is already organised how I want it, will itunes try and reorganise all my media? Cheers.
1. Yes you can. File > Add File (AND/OR) Add Folder > Computer > Local Disk (D > My Music (or whatever the folder name is). 2. Itunes organises your media in order alphabetically, by genre, by runtime, by artist, by album, by rating, or by play count. If you want it organised differently you have to change the file names, or create a playlist.
It won't alter the folder organization on your drive though. It will probably want to reorganize them in iTunes, but it won't move around or rename any files.
When you first run Itunes (after installation) it asks you if you would like to have Itunes Keep your music organized or not, just click no now for the answer to your 1st question. When you install Itunes then run it don't let it import anything when it asks you once it launches goto edit and hit preferences (ctrl + , for shortcut [yes the comma key]) i took a quick ss of what you should do 1: Click Advanced 2. Make sure you are on general (default) 3. Choose Change (then navigate to where you keep your music on your other partition) 4. Verify it and then click okay, if you are like me and get lots of music from many places (websites, P2P, CD's, other peoples IPod's, etc.) [i have over 60gb of music] you can click "Copy music to Itunes Music folder when adding to library" I use this so it keeps everything organized the way i like it, it makes it very simple for backup if you ever need to, then i just delete the source file, its an extra step i find nice let me know if you have another question
