Ok, I have heard alot of mixed reviews about the benefits/dangers of RAID 0 in all aspects: gaming, general use, ect (I am going to RAID 0 two Raptors btw). Alot of people say that raiding two drives increases the speed alot, and that it is worth the cost of two drives. Other people say don't get two drives, just get one drive.

I have even seen mixed articles online. Some say its worth it, some say its not.

So, is RAID 0 worth the extra cost of two drives, or is getting just one drive better?

Also, I am looking to cut off some money. Would raiding two 36gb drive be faster than one 74gb?

raid 0 is more used on servers than home computers.

all raid 0 does is take 2 or more hard drives, and makes it on...

I love my Raid 0 setup. I got two Serial ATA 7200.7 RPM with 3GBp/s. These things are rockin' my world. I am not sure about speeding them up because I never tried sata other than Raid 0s because I love Raid 0 so much. I will be getting some 10000 RPM ones soon and raid them as well. So I say "Yes" to this one. It's soooooooo worth it. But, an oppinion is an oppinion.

it's better for large media files, using very small files the diference won't be as noticeable. two 74GB raptors will outperform the single 150gig one in most things, but they also require twice the power and cost a bit more/GB. My WD1500 performs compareably to my friends two 7200rpm hitachis in raid(though on larger files his drive s are faster) for general use.

I was wondering about this too. I was thinking of raiding (raid 0) two 200 gig maxtor SATA drives.

I prefer raid1 (backup) instead of raid0 (strip) since its safer :P

just remember if one drive fails in raid0 you will lose all your data. So I would suggest a Raptor for OS and a standard drive for files.

if you play games, watch films, listen to music blah blah blah, raid 0 is good.

Raid 0 is not "safe." Well, I must say, it's held up pretty good for me. Also, make a backup. ;)

Yea, my fault. What happened was, I typed that for another forum, and I was posting a post on all my topics to get them back to the top of the screen, and I just copied it and pasted, forgot to change it.

Thx for all of the opinions. Keep it up if possible.

raiding two 36GB drives would be fast than one 74GB one for most cases. just keep in mind though the 74GB raptor is cheaper by itself than two 36GB raptors and is most certainely fast enough while still eaving you the future option to raid as an upgrade(just borrow a friends drive to backup) in say a year when drives costs drop a bit.
