http://www.hcnonline.com/site/news.cfm?new...id=532215&rfi=6 If you've read the book, you'll spot the irony. But thats besides the point. This kind of behavior, in my opinion, is absolutely ridiculous. Sheltering their kids isnt going to help them, not in the long run. To quote a pal of mine who saw this... And for the record, Fahrenheit 951 is a really good book.
This is irony: I was in school today and it was this realy fat girls birthday, and she had a cake. And she dropped it, rofl.
Ermmm yea, this would've been better off in the off-topic section, because there is alot of spam in here.
Bleh just remembered that the book has stuff about books being taken away. By remembered I mean read VV post below But I dont think this book should be taken away. I read lots of books with "swearys" in them, and have been doing so for many years.
The Irony is, the book says in the future people will take books away. (If you didn't know, 451 degrees F, is the temperature at which paper burns) I'd have to agree, if it offends someone, then it shouldn't be there. Or, you should let other books that offend other people back into the system.
I didnt mean for this to be a "hey look and lol" thread, I meant for it to be a discussion on if this type of thing is justified or just the result of outspeaking over conservatives. Irony was just a topic name becuase I couldnt think of anything better. The reason its ironic though is that, in Farenheit 451, books are banned (completely) becuase for every book there will be at least one person who finds it offensive. The deeper topic within the book is anti-censorship. However, in this case, these parents are trying to do exactly that, censor a book becuase of something they dont like in it.
its just a novel. a pretty much non offencive novel with some real life dialouge. and yes, its MILDLY ironic, but your statement about liberals and conservatives was A: random and B: retarded. use yer thinker
Kind of like since people don't like the Bible, it isn't aloud in the school system? It's kind of hypocritical to look down on them for wanting it out of the school, when most people want other books out.
