Sooo, I'm extremely rusty and I can't seem to get a flow going. I made this today, but I feel that there's too much of a contrast, brightness wise, between the focal and the background. It also seems overcontrasted to me. I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me what you think would make it better. Only constructive criticism please.

    Needs moar brightness.

To be honest, it's alright for someone who is rusty but damn hell that is bright. Tone that down a bit and re-up.

That's marginally better. Have you tried adding a red photofilter at 90% and then make the opacity about 50?

See if that looks good. If not, play around until the effects right next to him get a better feel to them. It's still good though.

I'll try that, thanks. I think what's weird about it is that the effects on the right are bigger than the effects on the left, making it seem uneven.

Lose the border. Tada, instant better flow!
And way overcontrasted in areas. Other areas have really nice effects though ^^

i dont think it looks too uneven, but when you darkened it, now it looks almost too dark on the sides, on the brighter version maybe try some black brushing on overlay over the effect, that may help but may not, i think that the effect and a little bit on the render are the only things from the original that need darkening, but version two is overdoing it ;)

also i'd move the text, or change the style. this kind of sig may just not need it (i just think its distracting to have the suddenly bright text in the dark corner) ^_^
