putting ipods in the name could boast sales of the others too, if someones looking for i pods but dont want to spend money on a $200 nano or $300 video and such they still click the ipods and then thear are the creatives and sonys and such and someone sees this $150 or $100 mp3 player they may buy that instead of buying nothing at all

Ipod was the original and most popular mp3. Thus why it is sometimes shown by itself.

Yes, I personall hate Ipods. My mp3 player cost about $100 and its better than the ipod. I paid $100 and that was when they first came out, Now the same one like mine cost about $40 and its a 2gb and the good thing about mine. EXCESSORIES DONT COST $100+!! AND MINE CAME WITH A FM/AM RADIO BUILT IN!!

No, it wasn't. Rio, Creative, and quite a few others had mp3 players out for quite some time before Apple showed up.

    Marketing, nothing else.

IMO, an iPod is an MP3 player with a different name, maybe more sofisticated but at the end it does the same thing
