And when i try to reformat the ipod, the ipod updater freezes and it says program not responding or file unreadble.

You sound pretty screwed man. I know you said not to say this but actually try calling Apple. I would just look for a new iPod as Apple will probably offer to refurbish it for the price of a new one.

...you have any idea how many people return their ipods? i have a friend who's had to return his video three times. for some reason, there's a few in every batch they send out that just suck for some reason. just call tech support, they'll guide you through, it's free. if they can't fix it, you can send it in and they'll send you a new one free. they say though, that all your songs will be gone...just copy the library file and when you get the new one, upload that file again and it'll be just like the old one except not broken, it'll take a few weeks, but it's worth it

personally, my silver mini never gave me a problem, but i needed more space so i got the 30 gb black video, it's given a few problems, but everytime the way i fixed it was letting the battery run down and recharging all the way. i just got lucky i suppose.

Trading in your ipod because it is broken for a new ipod is bad customer service?
