Hold the bottom button and the center one at the same time for about 5 seconds until the screen turns off. Then press the button on the top to the right. If you are doing this or it still doesnt work, then I have no idea try the apple ipod forums.

You sure you actually turn it off properly, before you put it on hold/leave it?

Do one of those system restores or whatever it's called.

    Here's typical iPod troubleshooting:
-Hold the Menu and Select buttons down at the same time until the iPod resets. You'll know it's reset when you see the little Apple logo come up. That's just a software reset. If that doesn't work,
-Restore the iPod using the iPod Updater program. Wire the iPod to your computer and open the latest version of "iPod Updater." From there, just click "Restore." This makes your iPod the way it was when it left the factory.
-If all else fails, call Apple, or get on Apple.com and set up a repair request. This process is really simple; I've done it a couple times.

    Hope this helps.
