With good enough specs that could run Photoshop, Flash, and etc without crashing the computer if I spend hours working on something. My old computer before it died could only go 4 hours until it frozed up when I was working in Photoshop.. <_< What would you guys reccommend? Also...Someone I know is willing to sell me their computer they're building...here's what they said: P4 @ 1.86GHz (single core). MSI (very reliable brand) K7N2 Delta motherboard, with (2) SATA ports, AGP 8x Graphics slot, and CPU and CPU cooler already installed, ready to go. 1GB of standard performance DDR400. MSI DVD +/- RW. I can throw in a 320GB SATA HDD or just a 120GB IDE, your choice. I'm thinking of going for what he's going to give me...unless there's something better that I should know...? Thanks in advance. ^_^
Just by reading the first p4 line, I say that in the world today, Pentium 4 is outdated, long time ago. So if you really want a computer that will last you for the next couple of years or so Tell me your budget (how much are you willing to spend) and I can get parts for you from Newegg.. The best way to get a good computer is to build it, I build my own, and saved thousands, since the companies out there cost more money for their chassis and their Brand Logo In end, tell me your budget and I will get links for you, Plus + , building yourself isn't that hard takes only 2 hours or so depending on how good and fast you are Vanquish
For starting $50 and $20 in payments...between college and work and bills, that's all I can put toward a computer. I would build my own, all I need are those links you've mentioned, and maybe I could.
....Wait, so you would like to build a computer which costs around $50 USD? and or $20 USD? ...You need at least $500 - 600 USD to build a fast running computer, or around $200 - $300 for a Pre-Built computer So I think that the choice what that guy is giving you, you can take it because I doubt that I can put together a computer for $50 On the other hand, do you work? if so how much do you get paid, because I used to work on $15 USD / hour for about 6 months and worked around 4-5 hours a day, and was able to afford my computer Now I work in Bay Area for around $64 / hour .. an internship Vanquish
I meant I could do it in payments... Not for $50 and $20. lol. But yeah, the other guy has it nearly finished and doesn't mind selling it for $50 to me. I do have a job, but it doesn't pay enough. I live in a crappy town for now. About the Pentium 4 being outdated...what's it up to now?
Oh X_X Sorry my fault I took it the wrong way But if he is giving you all that for $50 ... I would say ask him how much then he would give you the 320GB HD for ..if not then I can find you better ones As far as pricing goes, Newegg has one pay policy but I am pretty sure you can get them to make you pay iin small payments Let me get some links later today if that is ok with you ? I am currently at work And as far as I know ... in cpu the best one out there is Intel Core2 Extreme QX9775 3.2GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 771 150W Quad-Core Processor ~ $1500 USD So yeah, I will dig up links and what you will get for around 500 - 700 or so if I can get something Van EDIT: C2D Processor 2.0 GHz ~160 2GB RAM or More (for x64 bit) ~70 Baracuda HD ~150 Motherboard ~80 - 90 Graphics Card..8800 or so ~160 Cooler Case Mouse / Keyboard Power Supply I would say ~$700-800
S'ok. Hey, that sounds pretty nice. ^_^ And all for $700-800? That's not bad compared to what those companies sell them for. I'll think about the one you mentioned. When you get off work, feel free to give me those links so I can look around. I'll ask that guy about the 320GB HD later today. Thanks a lot. ^_^
Alright here are some that I quickly dug up Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128337 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115030 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220241 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130318 HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148294 So far:~ $600 USD Without tax And the Case + Cooling + Monitor and other accesories should total between 100-150 So around 750 or so USD total without tax Will get more links later on today Go around and look at those Main part is your MOBO ^_^ The best way is to look at the motherboard LGA Socket 775 or 771 for your CPU Then look at the RAM it uses like DDR2 1066 etc etc and for the Graphics card see if it is PCIe Express x16 or 2.0 Thats how to build it
Thanks. ^_^ I wouldn't have to worry about a monitor though, I have a good 22" flatscreen monitor that works fine. I don't use a mouse...lol, I used my Wacom pad and pen a lot. <_< I should find another job.
In that case it would be just another 100 bucks to the 600 to get it all set and moving Oh and once I finish this thing, do PM Xelink about this thread so he can check everything He is the man to go for building custom computers So yeah I will be back in about 2 1/2 hours, got to go to a meeting and do my presentation Then I will put together everything And Xelink might check before that so that will be good as-well B) Vanquish
pentium III. the p3 was faster than the p4 when it was launched and the p4 was replaced by a highly optimized version of the p3 two years ago fastest CPU on the market is the 3.2Ghz core 2 quad q9770. in single threaded applications, it's comparable to a 6.5Ghz pentium 4. in multithreaded situations, it can come close to a 25Ghz p4 note how there are no 6.5GHz p4s or higher. p4 was supposed to hit 20GHz. it didn't and it offered really low performance per Ghz. will say though the system he offered isn't too bad for $50(assuming that's the only cost) for a budget general use system pentium dual core(it's based off of core 2 duo) e2180 $70 2GB RAM $30 cheap board(ds3l or IP35v) $80 PSU $50 case $30 harddrive $80 dvd burner $25 video card $XX - depends on what you want shipping $ 30 potential links http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819116052 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128084 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119115 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817256032 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148316 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814121230 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814121251 that would work well for your standard entry level general use system(plus the cost of software if you haven't acquired a spare copy of windows somewhere) CPU would easily be overclocked to 2.7Ghz on the cruddy stock cooler should you desire and the system as a whole wouldn't fare too bad in games(think crysis, gears of war, world in conflict) if a reasonably good graphics card were bough, though that doesn't sound like a priority to you.
Thanks for the info. ^_^ If I do buy what my friend is selling to me, could I in the future upgrade some of the parts if I wanted to? Just checking if that would be a good idea or not.
Awesome Thanks X! You can go with his build if you like, since he decided to go with Pentium dual core which is a nice processor itself Overall the quality and the threading is good and has potential. As for the parts that your friend is going to sell I would say no because it is AGP and most of the video cards out there are no longer AGP, they all are PCiE Express x16 or 2.0 Va
if he's just looking for a general use machine it would get the job done and it isn't priced badly since it's only $50 total. wouldn't be for me, but the memory + case in that system is worth $50 alone.
I would really suggest building one, I just got mine 2.4Ghz stock, will overclock to around 3Ghz once I get a new heatsink, and 8600GT GPU, Great looking case, and it was all only $500, plus OS uyou can get a great deal on a PC, Less than $600 for mine, and at HP, i built the same thing on their website and it cost around $!000. I would def. reccommend buil;ding your own, everything comes wth books, and pages of information to make sure your know how to put it together. If i had to do it again, i would buy a Cheap PC off eaby,m and start from their by upgrading MOBOs, that w2ay you have a case, basic memory, power supply, and you can prob get everything cheaper that way, as for your friend, try and gt it from him and you can always buy new parts for it. As for the build Xlink suggested, i have the same PSu, Motherboard, and A step up from that processor, and I am so glad to did end up buying it. As for the case, I do have a coolermaster case, it cost me around $50 plus shipping, and Black, has 2 120MM fans, which keep it nice and cool, and there is plenty of room to work your wires and components around.
