It's kind of funny to read this and see how people have the wrong idea of what the staff does behind the scenes. Tehe.
I was in the "god-like" position of being a staffmember before. It was only for a short period of time though. My difference in opinion with another staffmember lead to me giving up. Being a mod was the most fun time i had on GR, because i could finally do something about all the people disobeying the rules, and i even had the feeling i was getting somewhere. But this was only for a short time, after i left it didn't feel like any of the staff was taking over what i started, and everything turned back the way it was before i became mod. If i had enough time i would return to modship in a heartbeat, but i just don't have the time for it. I really hope that being a staffmember had changed over the months/years, because at the time i was staffmember, it felt like i was running GR on my own, and probably more staffmembers of that time thought the same (i blame it on lack of communication).
I would be rich? thanks google ads, thanks premium members, thanks donaters, thanks other advertisers!
Still fairly accurate, a batch of the mods are the ones whom do most of the work while the others simply wear the title, and the communication has not improved much, but we are definately trying to get it back up to its former glory (the only *real* communication that exists is between the batch of individuals whom do something).
actually from what I understand, forums are relatively profitable. It's basically just text with adds. Also, shaggy owns the server which GR is on. basic server for GR 500$ CPU 200$ motherboard 400$ RAM 100$ pwoer supply 50$ case 300$ of harddrives so basically around $1600 all in all for the server and it's a one time thing. chances are I'm actually overestimating too. The only recurring cost is that of an ISP which I'm sure can't be TOO bad. 100-200$ a month tops and with 100 active members generating a few hundred a month in add revenue GR really does pay for itself. also all moderating is done on a volunteer basis. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=468181 scale their advertising revenue up 10fold and it works out the GR makes around 50$ a day, it might not sound like much, but it's around $1500 a month another example and probably a better one... http://www.websitepublisher.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5622 now, you could complain about a profit being made and all this bull----, but the way i see it, the site is offered to us free, it's our choice to click the adds or not and the very fact that this site is profitable means it will continue to exist for quite some time. I love GR and hope this site lasts for many years.
