get an i7 the Core2 Extremes are overpriced and tend to run hot compared to regular Core2 cpus. The extreme quads go for over $1000+ and you can get an i7 920 from newegg for $289 or Microcenter for $229 and its faster than any of the Extremes. The only downside to i7 is the motherboards they go in the $200+ range where a good Core2 board can be had for $100-130. The memory for i7 is slightly more (DDR3) than the DDR2 memory for 775 boards but prices have drop alot in the past few months. You can get 6gb (3x2gb sticks) for under $100

    i7

    faster per Mhz
overclocks about as far on the latest steppings
costs less as a whole since the XEs are $100 and overpriced.

WHY WOULD ANYONE BOTHER WITH CORE3, WHEN i7 is out?

WOW! I can't believe that the i7 package can cost me around only 500$.. I thought it would be a lot more expensive than the Core2Extreme processors. The only thing I am concerned about now is that I will have to get a new Motherboard & Memory sticks. Do I also have to upgrade my current PSU (Gigabite 550W)? I am also planning on a new Graphics card, which one should I go for and I will not be running the PC without less than 6 GB of ram on a Vista x64 Ultimate.
