Every sig I do comes out "ok" except when it comes to the depth... all my sigs look like stupid ass flat pieces of art. I don't want that. Can you give some tips and tricks of the trade to help me out with this?

    Ex.

bluring the bg is the most common way... b&w gradient map set a lumonosity adds depth too theres more ways but u gotta learn those yourself like i did ur sig needs better lighting and color too

Blurring the bg doesn't work all the time.

definitely the gradient multipliers on lighter sigs, and gradient screens on darker sigs adds depth but yeah you do need to coordinate you colors a bit better. if you have objects further away from the render use the blur tool at 10% and blur them a bit that goes for stuff closer to the hypothetical (camera) compared to the render like watch your monitor and put your finger close to your eye and off to the side then you will get an idea of what I am talking about

Adding gradient maps on the top layers add depth when set to certain blending modes. Smudging helps in some cases as well, even photo filters such as ripple.

indeed it does not and i wouldnt use it for the sake of using it only if you planned to way before you start your sig.
another good way of adding depth is by spending your time on the sig and the depth just kind of finds its way in as the layers progress

using the dodge & burn tool helps, especially if you get it right it can make a tag look awesome

Lol, actually, no, blurring the bg doesn't work all the time. Because people tend to take all of the effects out of the sig by blurring it too much and focusing only on the render or stock, and that kinda ruins the sig in a way..

try using the blur tool instead of the blur filter you have more control on the total outlook of the sig if you are trying to add depth to a certain part of your sig

alot of people use stock images at a lowered opacity with a gradient as the bottom layer. It's ok to use stock, but don't let your whole sig just be stock and nothing else.
