How long did your PS3 survive until it broke?

I just bought myself an 80GB PS3 and my friend gave me a call saying that his PS3's laser broke. This could be easily fixed by opening it (also voiding warranty) and cleaning the dust right?
I remember my PS2 wasn't running discs properly so I opened it and cleaned the PS2 with compressed air, and everything worked fine. Would this also work with the PS3?

Is there anything I could do right now, that could make my PS3 last a lot longer? I promised myself not to move my PS3 until I have to, and to turn off my PS3 after every 1-2 hours lol

Lol. My friend's PS3's laser broke after 4 months also. Was your warranty with a store or Sony?

Yeah mine too xD. I don't play on it much, I usually just play ps1 games on meh ps3 now but still, shows you that the systems can last a good amount of time.
