Hey I was looking at some peoples logo on deviant art. http://arpad.deviantart.com/art/Logo-Folio-56000238
I was just wondering does anyone know exactly how this guy makes his logos? Is it pen tool in illustrator? B/c I'm sure he didn't use photoshop... or at least I don't expect him to.

Most people start off with a sketch of the logo. It's easier to balance the elements on paper because you can easily jot down ideas and erase things, etc. Then they scan it to their computer and basically redraw the logo in either Photoshop or Illustrator. However Illustrator is better suited for logo jobs, because that's one of the programs main purposes. When you're done designing a logo, there's a tip I learned that ensures you have a good design. Shrink your logo down to about 25% percent, if it looks good and it's readable and you can see everything clearly, you've got a good design.

Building a good logo is hard, takes a lot of time and practice. You have to ensure that your design represents a specific product efficiently and that it conveys whatever message it is suppose to. Another thing to consider is whether your logo will be printed or just shown online. If it's printed, you have to keep the design simple and minimal and use every element you can to it's fullest extent.

Think of a logo as an identity.

    Here are some good reads/guides.

we use illustrator at work, far better than logo design in PS and if you want to touch it up in PS just use the illustrator design in a EPS smart layer :]
