    step one: open photoshop.
step two: click mouse on various buttons, symbols, letters and boxes.
    step three: make a design.
step four: repeat steps 1-3, as many times as needed.

hint: mess around! don't be afraid to make mistakes. photoshop won't kill you, so you might aswell molest it for all it's worth.

i learned on experimentation and tutorials, but they both go hand in hand. some sites i found amazingly educational were http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop , http://www.pixel2life.com/ , and of course, gamerenders.com. but the latter shouldn't be too hard to find.

    good luck, soldier

    >^^<

You should learn until you know all of the basis. Brushing, smudging, colours, curves, brightness and contrast, filters, photo filters, gradient maps, liquify, blending modes, lightning... All of those things are basics and I couldn't imagine myself doing a sig without them. So until you don't have an idea about most of those things, you should keep reading tuts.

When you know how to apply most of the stuff by your own, you can try and do sigs without the help of tuts.

And another important thing is not to follow tuts by scratch. If they look bad for you you should change them a little and do things you have learned while reading other tuts.

Conclusion: Learn making sigs from a lot of tuturials, but don't do sigs only by using tuturials. Experiment!

And tuts are always useful. You can read them anytime (Even if you're very good) and you still can learn from them.

AFAIK, that's all there is to it.
