I've been playing around with the idea, maybe you could do it better, it's third person, but the way that the story is told event wise would be unorthodox.

Start off with the rising action (like the hero going through a great trauma) and then go through the story through the beginning up to that point, and from there go to the ending.

Sorry I couldn't help you that much, I'm not much of a fantasy/adventure type of guy

One huge idea: Think originally. I hate when I read books/stories that sound alike. Just kinda boring.

If you're stuck where to start, start with a place or a character. Don't forget to use a lot of detail in it. Use big words also :P

Use your imagination , write down your ideas of the story such as the setting, characters and main events then organize them and start writing it.

    One more thing:

There is this site called Nanowrimo (link: here) You spend one month writing a 50,000 word novel. My creative writing class did it somewhat. It's pretty fun (a lot better than writing poetry :P). The month was November, so you're gonna have to wait if you will do it.

Overall, great site to help you out (there is a forum for some interaction if you are stuck/want to talk)

Well, i don't think you should do Fantasy at all...

You should try Sci-Fi, but don't do stupid random things that aren't based on things that perhaps can happen :)
