I would try and flash the BIOS to the newest version if i were you... And BTW, what are your sys specs?
if he bought an OEM system he probably doesn't know what the term BIOS refers to yet alone how to flash it. Also, OEMs like HP aren't exactly all too prompt to give out copies of their BIOS.
@.sXe: You got ripped off defenatly, but that doesn't make your Pc bad, its a great pc, its just the graphic card (if you have a 7300LE) which basicly sucks.. If you want to know your fully systems specs, goto www.cpuid.com, download CPU Z. Open it up like 5 times and show each TAB, make a screenshot and show us here. It'll tell basicly everything about your pc. About the locked bios, you can try restarting, hitting DEL when your PC reboots and then hit CTRL + F1. Check if there is a option to Change Frequency/voltages or something like Motherboard tweaker... @xlink, you should disable speedstep, it can limit your overclock. And in your SPi thread, settings should be 27/4 that means it should run 3.2ghz 24/7 and not 50% or w/e at 2.4ghz.... right? About the 1.6 ghz, it could be caused by OS, it doesnt really matter, he has just speedstep enabled. Even when your bios is locked you can change it. when locked i mean only frequency/voltage controls.... Btw, if you want to get a cheap, awsome great super l337 pwnage dx9 cheapcheap card, get the x1950pro
Haha your a dumbass you fell for a comp store deal, never trust a comp store, the cheapest, and best comps are custom. If you actually need the space get an lcd screen, if you want the best quality go with a crt cause lcd can't perfectly master what you see like a crt. Your processor? $220.00 from newegg. DO NOT FALL FOR WHAT A COMP STORE TELLS YOU, THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE A $600 profit.
Can you please run cpu-z while running prime 95 and post the results here? Because that will confirm whether speedstep is enabled or not.
@dev: speedtep lowers max FSB on the board... I'm ok with that, I don't go for max OC, I go for reasonable OC. I primed and did stability tests at 408FSB and back down to 400FSB for 24/7 and my SP1m is my 24/7 also, I highly doubt he wants to spend that much ona card, it's around 160$ USD here, my 7600GT cost me 73$ after rebate... cheaper than my fav recommend the x800GTO... I'd have to look into pricing in the UK though, I'm not that familiar.... here is a rough performance sketch for decent mainstreme cards in order low to high lowest 7300GT x800GTO 7600GS x850XT, x800GTO(unlocked) and 7600GT [threeway tie] 7900GS x1900GT x1950pro highest in most scenarios, the cards are ranked form low to high there are of course variations in the real world, but that's more ro less how it is. I advise you start a search with the most expensive cards first and then find the cheapest one of the higher end cards you can, then do the next on the list and so on. Then at the end show someone here a link and we'll make a recommendation based on your needs/budget Merged Post: you have very good points, though remember OEM systems do bundle software in that package and support. His warranty might be ----ty by the standards of a DIYer but it's a lot less of a hassle, he also gets tech support(though the internet works good enough for most DYIers) Realistically, The system he bought was 'only' $300-400 overpriced though. as for the LCD argument, they do use less power and are easier on the eyes and their image quality is approaching that of CRT monitors. I am in the market for a new monitor, and am personally struggling between which to choose. I consider the space argument bullshid though, I pull my monitor to the front of my desk. I'm not moving my screen back, that's like buying a smaller screen... =============== and do max out the CPU useage when checking CPUz, superpi, orthos or prime will do it easily http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm
Don't call him a dumbass. He may have fell for it, but that's still no reason to be dillhole about it.
