I really got alot of sh*t on my computer so I wanna format the hard disk. I already saved the important information on my other external hard disk.

I now have my original Windows XP and a boot floppy. But when I insert the CD it says a newer version of Windows XP is already installed so I should first get rif of that one.
And when I use the boot floppy,,,then,,,I don't understand anything of it

Plz help me,,, the first one who can help me (and it should actually work :) ) gets 20 creds.

You need to boot from CD ok here it goes - Unless your computer boots from CD at the beginning disregard step 1 and 2

    1. Restart comp press Delete - Search for 'Booting Devices' or something similar -The first one should be floppy so change that to CD

    2. Save and exit
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    3. Let it reach a stage where it asks you to press enter says something along the lines of 'Boot From CD'. Hit enter.

    4. As soon as you hit enter thel Windows XP setup screen will appear and start to load files

    5. During the setup process, you will have the option of formatting your hard drive : BELOW :

    6. When you come to the screen where you select the drive partition you should see the drive listed with all the space listed as unpartitioned.

If the drive was in use previously, you'll need to delete all the existing partitions - If you got 2 delete the one that has the MAIN WINDOWS ON.

    7. To do this you'll have to hit the 'D' key followed by the 'L' key. The screen instructions will be visible to guide the process.

    8. Once all the existing partitions are deleted the display will show the total unpartitioned disk space - RAW DRIVE

    9. Hit the 'C' key to create a partition - If you only want one partition then hit enter and the entire disk space will be allocated to the C Drive - IE YOUR MAIN WINDOWS DRIVE

    10. Once all the partitions have been created, use the 'Up' arrow key to select the C drive partition to install XP on and select to format it with NTFS

    11. Once finished step 10 the formatting begins getting rid of all the unwanted stuff on your comp :D

    12. Once formatting finished it will restart and run the actual Windows XP setup. From here on its quite simple so I leave it to you to figure it out :D

I hope this helps this is basically the full guide on how to format through the CD way.

I can do the Floppy disk way but thats slightly complicated if you dont kno the MSDOS syntaxes and more command driven. The CD way is more graphical so thats really the way i would go ;)

i think it needs to be stickied for people who dont know :D Wha ya think

It worked :D I'll send the creds ;)

But I now face an other problem, every time I now scroll down the whole window refreshes itself. So instead of going smoothly down it refreshes the whole page. Really irritating!

Could someone help me with that?
