around 1000 dollars total. i could have gotten a lot of weaker stuff and saved money, but i splurged on the PSU, motherboard, and processor so that i could upgrade for a lot less. this way, i can just swap in a new graphics card, overclock my CPU, and i'll have good performance for the foreseeable future. i also didn't have an existing case, monitor, or keyboard/mouse, so those were some one-time "price of admission" costs. if you've got a desktop now, you wouldn't have to pay for those again.
