I need someone to compare the two free AVs...I need the pros and cons for both, I just got a message that Avast deletes random things and the person was correct too.. it deleted a file just because it had a weird extension from a cd game...
Avast: -At-boot (safe mode) Scanning -Alot of On-Access Scanner modules this is all i know, to help other peeps that know AVG better than me..
Well, I don't particularly like Avast, because of the fact that every time it finds a virus on the system, it asks me to remove it and stops the whole scan. Sure, it probably woulden't be so bad after it catches all the viruses that my other AV diddn't catch, but what good is an antivirus that you have to watch all the time or it wont get the job done? I like to set my antivirus to scan and then go to bed, or go out and run some errands, etc, not sit here and work with a laggy computer while Avast is scanning. AVG is a winner in my book. It mas many of the features that Avast and many other paid antiviruses have, and more. It also is very fast scanning, and does not take up much RAM. If I am correct, I remember that on my old Windows 98 machine there was an on-boot scan as well, but that does not seem to be the case with Windows XP. I don't know if it is the operating system, or a new version of AVG, or maybe I just have it set wrong, but I dunno =S Anywho, thats just my two cents B)
Just tested them both.. Guess what I found.. AVG is just as good, less processing space, less space used up Avast locates 'non viruses' as 'viruses' just tested it with a file I know FOR SURE isn't a virus, probably 100% positive. So yeah, I guess AVG > Avast.
AVG is very good. ive used it on my older computer and its fairly easy to use and the layout doesn't make it hard to find what you want to do. Also it updates frequently and is pretty good at spotting the viruses. The only problem i had with it, was the actual removal of viruses. For some viruses it would SAY theyre deleted and then minutes later the virus would start acting up again.
^ Never happened to me before, but I rarely get viruses, occasionally I get some random backdoors that noobs try and throw at me.
Well, for me, I use Avast and Nod32. They work well together, they don't fight like Norton/Symantec and Avast would. The only way I scan on Avast, normally, is by At-boot scanning. You can set it up so that it automatically deletes the virus, and if it cannot delete it, then it asks you what you want to do with it.
I use avast and if your smart enough all those 'non viruses' just ignore them and i like it cause it informs me if something is wrong i liek it beter than avg avg is too ghetto LOL
