Actually, they do make good music. I do prefer their older stuff (one of the bands I've listened to forever, I think I've been listening to them since I was 8 years old in 94), American Idiot was up to par. Face it, they DIDN'T sell out -- they just released it at the right time. They'd always been very popular, but it had been a while since they'd last put out an album. As for genre, they're pop-punk. Too poppy to be punk, and true punk is dead anyway (same with emo, the only band still around that are true emo now is probably Jimmy Eat World).
I like some of their stuff, not all of it though. But as many people will know already, i like all music, im not fussy
I used to be a greenday fan ive out grown them, haha you know what real emo is, emo is a dead genre that has been brought up false, fugazi are one of the first emo bands not sure if there still about, not really my scene
Hell yeah I know what emo really is, I love music I can't say I've ever really liked any emo bands though, beyond Jimmy Eat World and some Finch (they're kinda emo I suppose, I find it funny how they despise their own first album). I'm more of a rock/metal girl myself, but I cringe when people say stuff like Avril's punk or Taking Back Sunday is emo or Simple Plan is rock. THEY'RE ----ING POP!!! Graaaaah.
I love trying to search out unknown groups because there's an amazing amount of talent out there that's not been found yet. Though right now I'm squee-ing in anticipation of the new Tool album....ohholycrap Tuesday can't come soon enough.
thats the thing, shes not into music like 90% of the "normal" teenage population is (and she and i are far from your traditional "normal" teenager). She seriously listens to like 5 bands solely (evanescense, slipknot, linkin park, green day and maybe some other softer rock like aerosmith and such). I cant get her into my music genres like rock (all of it except the really old, softer rock like bon jovi, rolling stones, beatles, etc.), metal (and all of its sub categories unless its non-stop screaming and yelling... i want to nuke those concerts), techno, rave, trance, industrial and the occasional raggae/rap (i only listen to rap when i am bored of hard rock/metal and then i decide i was stupid to have ditched metal for this BS). She likes all the music I give her, but she doesnt like go download all of their music and start turning into a music buff. She likes all the music I like and a little bit more, she just isnt into music. As said, I have been looking for things she and I dont get along with, and this is basically the only one she and I dont get along with is her taste of music (or lack thereof). I say put up the metal fingers, stick out your tongue, headbang and drive through the rich neighborhoods at night blaring music and waking everyone up.
local bands suck around here (no joke). I have paid the money to take her to regular concerts, but she doesnt like going into the mosh pit like I do, so we kind of socialize with friends in the back... i mean... who the ----?!? goes to a Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Disturbed or Nine Inch Nails concert and doesnt mosh? I have even taken her to one of her favorite bands (slipknot) and she still doesnt do much but socialize, so its not the music of the bands im taking her to, i dunno whats up with her musical taste... but shes like this for alot of things, she isnt really INTO anything in particular, she just kind of scratches the suface of everything... the only thing she is really excited about is myself and spending time with friends (small groups only, she hates more than 5 people in a group)... thats really all shes into... Do you know how hard it is to get tickets to a Nine Inch Nails concert out here? I couldnt even pay for them, I had to continue calling a radio station over and over again and claimed to be my moms husband and that she was going to come pick them up for me (since im not 18, i cant legally win anything from the station i was calling into).
well at gigs i go too its not too much about moshing, there are a few fights lol, its about music and socialising and screaming lyrics back at the singer when he comes down to your face EDIT: and drinking
thats the thing, we dont get close enough to the damn singer lmao when i say back, i mean by like the t-shirts, the beverages and where all the "regulars" hang out and chat, we dont even bother getting into the crowd, let alone at the fence. I personally see no benefit in going to a hard rock/metal band if your not moshing. Manson's mosh pit (ive been to 2 of his concerts, one of which i moshed in, and i told her this experience, which is definately reason enough not to want to mosh at a manson concert) is the best pit ever. I went in with a $50 concert tee, i came out with razor blade cuts all over my upper body and half the shirt missing (yes, im wierd like that, i enjoyed it) and $50 down the drain, but you know what? I had fun, and thats all that matters. EDIT: I just wish she could share that kind of experience with me at concerts. I dont want to ditch her at concerts ofc, but i mean... god... its just so irritating that the one thing that is like above 95% of the things in my life i cant share with her (being music, the other 5% above that is her in general). There are always other things to do, but seriously, shes like the only teenager i can say i know personally that doesnt like to go into the crowd and into the pit and stuff and concerts are fun things to go to, but if she and i both cant enjoy them to their full extent for the money im paying for them, her ticket is about to go to one of my good friends lmao
LMAO, well she might be into the less comercial hardcore scene, or even a band like some girls i went to one of there gigs when they came to london (there an american band) and they were pretty awesome, its got members of locust, Plot to blow up the effel tower, Give up the ghost/American Nightmare and unbroken, seems like shes one of the people that like to stand and look at the bands and enjoy the atmosphere more than the actual fight, plus how many girls do you actually get in pits normally anyway
I'm weird liek her and only listen to just a few bands... as i lay dying black dahlia murder lamb of god nodes of ranvier throwdown unearth zao as you can see I only listen to a few... though mine all tend to fall into a category known as metal and are a bti hardsh for the average person...
yeah, shes just not into music in general though, i have even sat back at a green day (who i hate, yet i paid for it and went there just because its something she wanted to do) and evanescence (which i can deal with, but it isnt one of my favorite bands) concert and she does the same thing. It just irratates me because im one of those guys who just loves to be in the action all the time, whether it be concerts, fights, drag racing, etc. and shed rather just sit it out in the background (shes really shy and not very social). as far as girls i know who mosh, about 18/20 of them (keep in mind im a goth/rocker/metalhead as well are 90% of my friends).
