Well, I was looking through the manual of my computer (dell dimension 4600c) about how to add cards and such, and then I came to an area that explains how to add/replace the AGP Card. I was reading through it and it was sayin like make sure it connnects to the PCI connector and AGP connecter and everything. But im confused, does this mean my computer has an AGP slot if I wanted to get a new graphics card?

If you go to the appendix in your manual there should be a specifications section. There should be a part called expantion bus and under it look for bus types and it should say what kind of cards you can put use. If it says agp then yes you have one.

the Accellerate graphics port(AGP) was the standard for GFX cards a while abck because it offered higher data transfer speeds than PCI.

just pop open your case and see if you see a brown slot, if you do you have AGP if you don't... "It's a Dell"

AGP port is the one circled in red.... it's often stood back form the PCI slots and is towards the top in ATX boards. it isn't always brown but most fo the time it is.

yah like xelink said, and installing it is easy, you'll have a manual with the card itself.

    yuk a dell

i think it has a PCI slot only

its really consuding coz my friend had a dimension 3100 and dell says it has pci-e and other onlien say it has agp and some says it oy has pci

so when i looked for him it did indeed only have 2 PCI slots.

and about opening the cover doesnt it have a easy quick release lever on the top at the back ?

Your computer has a 4X AGP slot. Right now the card you have is probably a GeForce4 MX.

Try getting a 4X AGP card and replacing it with your current one.

If you don't want to do that, call Dell and ask what cards it supports for more information.

Are you sure? I mean, I have no idea, but im just wondering how you know
that's what I think too, but I almost broke it trying to lift it cuz the metal or w/e its attached to is REALLY flexable.

Any other ideas on how to open it :S

AGP3.0 and AGP 2.0 are supposed to be forwards/backwards compatable(so an 8x card should work ina 4x slot just not at 4x)

try opening it and just see fi you even have a port. Dell is notorious for excluding them because it increases their costs(if excluding the port save 1$ and they sell 1 million systems without ports, then their CEO gets a free lambourghini)
