GR has a darn good server; its not that GR needs an update, its that GR has so much stuff; SQL files, attachments, all the post and general board files, etc.

Around the time you experience downtime, is when the GR server is doing its "daily" backup- the admin, Llam & big dave, are from England, so he schedules the downtime so that it won't affect him or most of the mods( since a good majority of them are from England) and it won't affect his work on the site.

GameRenders is around the 30 gig mark, in terms of space, so its sometimes a longer process in backing up then most forums your use to going.

    Hope this helps some,

As a result of feedback, I have rescheduled the daily server backups to a time where few people are online. Hopefully this will decrease the amount of people suffering from slow page load times.

What ISP do you have? It may be that, or even your Internet Browser? Try Firefox or Opera. It may be tht you have "bad cookies"? try deleting your GR cookies, this may speed things up.

Thanks for re-scheduling the back-up. It was getting me at around 9:10 EST til around 10:00.

Hopefully I won't notice it much anymore, as those are pretty much my peak hours of internet usage. :D

I think a good time would be around 4am GMT. Most of Europe will be asleep, and it'll be pretty late for us in the USA/Canada also. :)

backups would also go alot faster if the forums were pruned a bit. removed the very old members that have been inactive for a long time with 0 posts. ones over one year old should be pruned if they havent made a post. just a suggestion ;)

    Not me.

But slowdown usually occurs for me around, hmm, &:30. I just go do somethin else for about 1/2 and hour, and it works faster, or just plain fine. Not bad IMO.
