GP is apparently the only person who actually likes the smell of axe. Perhaps he uses it as pepper spray and blinds these girls so they cant see the disgusting mess...
No, he doesn't shower, so he tries to cover it up with axe, but he doesn't realize that axe smells just as bad as he does. Mainly because his smelling sense has decreased dramatically because he sleeps in his room, which has to have a number of growing organisms.
