So, i went to GameStation, and got Guild Wars today for £20 quid. So i was wondering, what can u tell me about the game, as the only reason i bought it was cuz u guys were always on about it! Any tactics, or ace races that i should be? Post.
A: there is one race, humans B: what do you like more, smashing or casting? if ya like smashing, you should be a warrior and pick up monk as a secondary. you will be able to take a monster beating and heal what little dmg you take very easily. ( i would recomend using an axe or hammer, swords suck. ) ( and mending is a great skill for warrior/monks ) if ya like casting, you have to pick between healing, nuking, cursing and sucking the life out of people, and mesmers ( they are honestly a very difficult class for new ppl to try ) rangers can do anything. have fun in GW, i sure am ( 1k hrs baby )
I personally think that Rangers are the master class. And with factions coming out, I would consider getting the assassin, which kicks ass.
Im into smashing in combat, and using spells with my smashing, so what should i do? Whats good about rangers?
WHAT?!? Everyone can use a warrior/monk in their group... atleast 1 if not 2-3. A solid tank, especially one that can heal themselves is essential, it helps keep the monks energy up to heal more vital characters like casters.
I got guild wars the other week and it's ----ing amazing! i haven't played it much since i've been a bit busy. on my first day i got to level 7, yay! I'm a E/W
Tanks aren't essential, anything can easily be done without them. For instance, I went through all 3 ascension missions with an ALL ranger group, and I do mean *all*, not like 7 + a monk. We didn't have one single death, or problem, the whole time. @Lt. Crumpet - Swords don't suck, you just, obviously, didn't use one enough to realize it's true power. I farm very quickly with a sword, alot quicker than I do with an axe for some reason...monk isn't the best secondary for a warrior, trust me, there are far better secondaries, it shouldn't be the tanks job to keep himself alive, he should have a good monk with him most of the time Seriously though, if you want advice that actually has reason, not just opinions, check out this place, it's got everything you'll need to know and then some.
*sigh*, as i said, CAN use a warrior/monk. I personally never have a PvE or PvP ground without atleast one warrior, even if its simply a stance warrior used to keep the monks HP up while the monsters beat down on him for farming. Also, as far as swords are concerned, they are faster and can be utilized alot better than axes personally, their average damage is higher than axes or hammers and their speed is higher as well, so they make great damage weapons, but i always have used a hammer/axe setup varying on what i feel like for the day despite having my two req 8 flamberges with 10/10 sunder, +5 defense (better in the long run, do the math) and the 10% furious, +5 defense. I only break out sword for PvP, my PvE setup uses an axe and does its job VERY well if i do say so myself Also, as far as good monks, last time i checked, unless your in a good guild, your chances of finding a "good" monk are unlikely. Most monks are now those monks that are made by people who simply want to be able to get a group all the time and dont know what they are doing. Good help is hard to find these days.
Someone above asked if GW is still free. Yes, it is still free to play. It will always be. I suggest some sort of warrior for first character, unless you have played many tactical online rpgs before. Here is also some opinions of what character you could want Warrior - The class with the least energy need, as many of their skills run on adrenaline. Good for newbies and people who prefer to just kill, kill, kill, and let others do the thinking. Exclusive attribute: Strenght Mesmer - This is a many-sided class. They can use skills to gain energy from every foe when using spells, interrupt spells, slow people down, make them damaged when they attack, or when they use a spell. Many different stuff, but mostly for the guy who wants to be in controll of the battle and restrict the opponents possibilities to kill. Exclusive attribute: Fast Casting Elementalist This is quite a simple-to-understand class. Deal out massive damage once in a while. Great for finishing off a group of enemies that has great support of the monks. Or maybe land a meteor on the monks to give them something else than the damage dealers to think about. Exclusive Attribute: Energy Storage (increases max energy) Necromancer This character focuses on spells that steal health, give health degeneration to opponents, and summon undead creatures. I can't explain any deeper because 1) They ain't too deep 2) I suck at necromancers =P Exclusive Attribute: I don't remember the name, but gives energy when creatures and people die. Monk The life of many parties. Can also be a awesome damage dealer with smithing magic, and a great solo character. One of my friends sometimes play a max level low-hp almost-immortal monk when soloing for items. Exclusive attrib: Divine Favour, increases healing. Ranger This guy is the single most annoying opponent you can face. Lay traps, cripple opponents and have a extra creature helping you, all by long-range with pretty low energy usage compared to casters. Very deadly in a ranger spike team. Exclusive attrib: uuh-- I forgot
