I think I've finally made my mind up. I've decided to go socket 939, but keep my current GFX card, HDD's, RAM, etc. Here's what I was thinking (to find the items copy the name I put here, follow the link, hit Ctrl-F and paste the name)

    PSU:
    Hiper 525w PSU http://www.mplex.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app....catstr=HOME:psu

    Mobo:
    Asrock 939Dual SATA2 Socket 939 http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Cat...&SubCat=MBD-939

    CPU:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_X2.html

    Case:
A-Top X-Blade Black Deluxe Version ****No Psu*** With LCD Controller Fitted http://www.xcase.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_A-...ade_deluxe.html

    CPU Fan
    Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler - Retail (HS-011-ZA) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...Zalman_121.html

    note: L= pound....

that PSU isn't that great, for the same price, you could get n antec TPII 550 SLi PSU(which I have) or a simmilar in performance Enermax or tagan PSU. the only time's i've heard of hiper would be when people complain that theyb suck(they are often distributed to OEMs)

tagan is surprisingly cheaper than antec in the UK... odd
    Tagan TG530-U22 530W ATX2.01 2Force SLi Compliant Silent PSU (CA-005-TG)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh00...#aCA_2d005_2dTG

all UK PSUs are overpriced as compaired to in america though... heh, same applies to your procs(albiet not nearly as much on the x2 3800+ only overpriced 6L or $10)
after that VAT crap they are like the same price and Tagan makes an excellent PSU... look at the amps on the 12V rail...

if you plan on OCing and don't need the most insane fan, just buy the non-OEM package, if you for some odd reason do, get the OEM package and another fan(no waranties on OEM CPUs but using anything but the stock fan and OCing both void waranties)if you do wish to OC just get the opteron 165, it's essentially the same as an x2 3600+ at stock, but they OC phenominally well... the included HSF is also excellent, no need for another(most likely, I'm fine with mine at 2.61Ghz... past FX60 levels) most people(as in pretty much everyone) are able to get them to the leel of an x2 4800+ with stock voltage, I'm sure that zalman is a bit better than stock though

no need for another HSF if you buy a non OEM part, it's a bit more(even in the US it's the equivillent of 15 L cheaper)

don't give BS about an opteron being a server processor either... so what it has more money tossed into it's dvelopment than regular procs... the athlon FX and the Penium 4EE are both ripoffs of their server counterparts, don't tell me those don't perform better than their regular parts.

I'll look into an opteron cause I was planning on OCing the 3800+ anyway. I dunno about the PSU you suggested though, my budget for a PSU is £50 and I want to try and keep as close to that as possible, but I'll look for tagan PSU's elsewhere.
