My mum wants my laptop, and the offer she's made is this PSU(worth $84), this Motherboard(worth $79) and £100 ($175). My laptop is a 1.2 Ghz Via C3 processor, 256MB ram, 64 MB GFX card, 40 GB HDD, 14.1" screen and CD-RW. I got it for £299 ($525) 2 months ago. My question is, is it worth it?

ASRock is ok, but its not very upgradable. youd be better off with an ASUS or others..

I'm planing on getting that Motherboard and using it with my current setup. Then the £100 will go towards a new motherboard, processor, etc. And the PSU should be powerful enough if I plan on upgrading.

are you sure that motherboard will work with your current setup.

The motherboard is crap cause its old. the psu is a cheap no-name, not a very good deal.

I'm sure it will work, and it's better than my current motherboard which still has AGP x4. I thought Hiper was a well known brand. Well, these are the PSU's I can choose from.

you cannot assume, there are so many different processor types these days.
download cpu z and take a screenshot of the first tab and the mainboard tab.

cant you buy from a different site? As an antec or similar will cost similar pricing and they are a lot better.

I already know it's socket 478, and that it will work, but if you say so.

EDIT: I can't buy from another site. I'm getting it out of there because my friend works in one of their outlets and he can get me discount :D

There is no point in the new motherboard you have a perfectly good one so it would be a waste of money. Why not get more ram or something instead of the motherboard.

I'm getting a new motherboard because one of my RAM slots is broken, and if I get this new motherboard I can use my AGP card to its full x8 speed and I can put in 4GB RAM (which I already have)in the four slots

i see you have a lot of games, battlefield 2, cs:s, hl: 2. how do those run (fps?). if they run fine, i'd just take the money, save up for an x2 or operton (and socket 939 mobo) and just go with that.

but first things first, im assuming your main usage of your computer is to game, but i cant be sure, what is it for?

My average FPS is about 70 and yes, the main use is for gaming. What I was planing on doing, was getting the mobo and PSU, put the £100 together with the other £100 I already have saved up. I can get a deal from my local comp store. A 3500+, an ASUS A8N32-SLI and 2GB RAM. Not bad, eh.

not bad for todays standards, but the single-cored processors will become obsolete faster then a dual-cored.

im confused here, are you saying that your going to upgrade the motherboard for your Pentium 4, then your going to save up money and get another new motherboard, an athlon 3500+, and 2 gb RAM; but didnt you already say in post #11 that you already have 4 gb of RAM, im seriously confused.

Yeh, I got 4GB of RAM, but the new RAM (the 2GB I'm saving up for) is DDR2.
