Yup.. I need a notebook. Needs at least 512 MB of RAM and must be under or equal to $2,000.

If I find something I like I'll reward you with credits.

    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

get the 1.8ghz core duo mac, toss on some ram to bring you to 2 gb and then you're set. dual boot windows if you feal a need for some stupid reason.

when I say toss in some ram i mean get it froma 3rd party vendor, apple rips you off big on ram.

for a twelve hour trip you will need two or more batteries no matter what you get though unless the flight provides you with free electricity.

if you absoloutely insist not to havw a mac, try this

I bought one not long ago.
It was an Acer. I just recommend, don't buy Dell, it's overpriced.

actually for dells you'de be surprised...

on laptops battery life is advertised so Dell doesn't skimp on products related to that, namely everything... Dell just skimps on desktops because if they dont' advertise the part it obviously isn't important, I mean does the average consumer really care if it has a good motherboard or not? unlikely... well until a yea ror two later when they are f'ed over but hey Dell already has your money at that time doesn't it...

GHZ DO NOT EQUAL MORE POWER IN ALL CASES AND PENTIUMS DIFFER A LOT.

clock a PI to 4ghz and it woudl be raped by a P4 due to the P4s optimizations... clock a PII or a PIII to 3ghz and add SSE and all that great stuff and it would annihilate that very same P4. The Penium Ms and Core Duos are derived loosely from the P6 architecture used in the P Pros, PIIs, and PIIIs.

also one half gig of ram ona 1200 buck laptop is stupidty.

I own an Acer laptop and it's okay. I have an Aspire 5004WLMi 15.4" with an AMD Turion 64 ML-34. I also have an HP Presario M. I would say I prefer my HP more. The HP has 2 more USB ports, a VGA output, S-Video output, and card readers on the side. Also it has built in Altec Lansing speakers which play movies and mp3s nicely. Also this runs a 7200RPM SATA HD, not a 5400RPM HD that other notebooks use. I would recommend the NoteBook I specked out below.
