Hello right now my computer has a 1.1 GHZ Processor (C_R_A_P ) Anyways I am going to be able to afford to upgrade my computer system soon and a 3.2 GHZ Processor would cost me about #325 and I am able to pay that. I was just wondering what the highest GHZ Processor and is it worth it? Also are there any different type's of Processor's? I have seen a few listed on paper but I am not sure what they are exactially.

well a 3.2 Ghz dual core would basically be a pentium d which wouldn't be as good as a core 2 duo with lower Ghz
I know it's kind of hard to comprehend at first, and it does take a little researching yourself to understand it, but Ghz isn't everything. Efficentcy is way more important. Go to wikipedia.org and read out the Netburst Architecture, Intel Core Microarchitecture, Intel Core 2 Duo, and I guess a few other things. Also, go to youtube.com and search "megahertz myth"; that will give you an idea to how inefficent the Pentium 4's and Pentium D's are (the Pentium D's use the same architecture, that being Netburst, as the Pentium 4's do.) One of my friends has reccoemended an AMD 64 3800 processor. Btw. They quoted me $325 for the 3.2 Ghz dual core, so I can afford a far amount up to a barrior. I just want to get the best option for what I do now, (which is gaming and the internet, although i dont think the net is affected by it so... Gaming is my only concirn with the Processor I buy)
Why the hell is everyone so dang obsessed with clock speed... dangit the most powerfull mass produced CPU i know of would be suns niagra and it runs at 1.2GHz for the highest model. has about double the performance of a 3GHz core 2 duo or a 6GHz pentium D Pentium Ds blow hard. for 200$, you can get a 1.83GHz Core 2 duo and a motherbaord from Fry's and it will perform compareably to the 3.73GHz Pentium eXtreme edition, with about half the electric bill. and for the record, as far as I knwo this is the worlds highest GHz mass produced CPU http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpo...4&postcount=161 they have which are made for operation at subzero temperatures which are hitting around 500GHz. my advise is that it is not worth it, because you cannot kep your processor in a liquid nitrogen enviroment long term. for the record, I advise gettinga core 2 duo, they do about 90% more work per GHz than the obsolete pentium 4s and Pentium Ds. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/displ...hootout_12.html also ram has an impact too. if your processor is sitting idle waiting for data form the RAM or the harddrive, it might as well be 0mhz. and again, pentium Ds and related(celeron Ds, Pentium 4s etc.) are THE WORST chips for gaming, they have the lowest gaming performance of any chip. Pentium M Core 1, Core 2, and Athlon 64 would be the way to go. I'm planning on running a core 2 duo at 2.8GHz myself.
Ye i was thinking the same People GHZ isnt everything - Even if it processes at high clock speeds it still has be transported somewhere ie buses - If the bus widths are small then it will be slow... and depends on the bus speeed as wwell There are many factors and GHZ as said doesnt matter anymore - LOL AT nearly 8GHZ CPU hahaha - WHeres that 8GHZ processor in the freezer - DarkStar
i wouldn't mind an 8GHz Pentium D... if you pay the liquid nitrogen and mantainence of course... for the record though... you can't even play minesweep on a 5.2GHz cordless phone. for the record a Hz is just a measurement of how often the transistors flick on an off. if you're adding 1+1+1+1+1 and so on for infinity, it is likely that the processor with the most Hz will win, much like how intel would have had you thought from 1980-2006Q2 then in q3 intel fired half its advertising staff because it fell so fawr behind AMD while spentind so much money on an apparent failure in design. don't beleive me? check the superpi thread... http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php...pic=220648&st=0
Is that chat -=DarkStar post really accurate? Well the main thing I use my computer for is gaming so I want the fastest Processor I can get for my price range. When are AMD and Intel vs those ones you posted?
