I'm wondering whether any of you have thought about pursiuing a career that involvs graphics, or whether it's just a hobby. I realize that career choice still lies several years ahead for many of you, school but have you ever considered it?

I have 1 year left of highschool - after that I'll probably take a years break with work/travel before going to college or university. I hope to study webdesign or graphic design, only thing is I don't know how the marked is for such students - whether it's easy for them to get jobs afterwards or not.

I began thinking about it just a year ago - before that I wanted to be anything from a journalist to a gaming programmer. I've thought about architect and interior designer too, but I'm afriad I'm not very practical.

I'm also very fascinated with animation movies and thought about that for a while - problem is that I don't know a lot about it.

    How about you? :)

    GFX isn't a hobby or a career. It's a lifestyle.

Also, I guess the arts are what I'm going to end up doing. I've been drawing since I was two or so, and I just overall love to work in the visual arts. That and if you do it right, you can get some serious pay out of it.

lots of things you could do in graphic design.

You could create animkated movies like pixar.
You could create interior design concepts for stores like IKEA, and finesse or for clients.
Create concept cars to create basic idea on what to construct.
Do large bilboard advertisements for companies.
    Design and code websites.

Lots of stuff, but i hear the jobs are sorta hard to come by. Thats why tons of people freelance until they can land a steady job.

That's my current goal in life for anything job related. I always do projects and stuff involving jobs with designing. I just hope that I get lucky enough to get a steady job.

Don't really care much now though, I'm only 13 xD

Well I plan to get into logo and coding, also vectoring (but i'm already doing this). I've taken 2 classes on WebDesign and compiling CSSheets, not including the basic Word Processing classes, and all that good stuff and I'm only a Junior in Highschool, when school starts.

I've thought about this also. My friend, just the other night was talking about how there are going to be so many graphics designers in a few years. Since the (my guess) average age for designers is about 16-17 nowdays (that are forum active).

But I had to point out to him. Most people that work with programs like Adobe, that are forum active, make pretty much only tags/signatures. Yes, they are fun to make and involve some creativity. You can't exactly make a career making forum signatures. It takes lots of talent, time, and you've got to have a passion for what you create. When you see magazine and newspapers (any form of advertisement) you mainly see abstract pieces, vectors, logos, or 3D design/animation.

But I think most people nowadays won't take the time to create such large pieces, and will just stick to forum signatures :(.

But yep, graphics are fun :) and it is a lifestyle. Just pointing out that there probably won't be as many professional designers in the next few years that people think.

I really want to continue my GFX work and possibly get a job doing something along the lines of it. I may end up just being a computer programmer or something. If that happens, I may keep GFX around as a hobby.
