What are your thoughts on the XFX GeForce 8800 GT Video Card - Alpha Dog Edition ?

    Link

I'm currently running the 7600GT and I'm getting some artifacting when running Crysis. I'm not pushing it that hard either I have the settings pretty low and most of the shaders off.

I was wondering if I would be able to play with High-Max settings with the 8800GT.

    My PC specs are
Intel Core 2 Duo Quad - 2.4 Ghz
    8mb Cache
    3GB Ram
    32 Bit Vista

Will I see any difference going from the 7600GT to the 8800 GT or is there a better buy for the money?

I also used Tiger Direct for the store because they have a store up the street from me. ;)

    Any help is appreciated.

well the 8800 is A HUGE DIFFERENCE as compared to a 7600GT. in graphically intense games the difference is like night and day.

and 8800GT will get high/vhigh in crysis pretty well FYI though it in part depends upon the resolution you play at.

it's the same, as they work together... amd is for motherboards and such, ati only does the graphics cards

and if you want to expand your system later with a 2nd graphics card so you don't have to buy a whole new system, buy the HD3870, it's better in crossfire than the 8800gt in SLI. but if you don't want to expand later, take the 8800GT becuase, the 8800GT is better in single mode...

GFX cards are a personal choice , some like ATI some like NVidia ^_^

From my point of view , 5 yrs ago ATI made the best cards , now I feel the pendulum has swung over to NVidia , I have just upgraded from 2 x 8600gt sli'd to a single 9800 GX2 .

    NVidia gets my vote ;)

in most things it's not. particularly crysis.

still not a bad card though.

and for those wondering, AMD bought ATI.

no offense but that's a poor choice.

vote for the product not the company

Thanks for the help guys! So it's obviously a decent card and I'm sure I've seen you guys talking about this card before in other threads.

At $179.99 CAD is that a decent price? or is there something comparable or better around the same price?

If it's a good card, I might just pick this one up...I was over at Tiger yesterday and it comes with COD4 for like $15.00 more. not bad.

$180 CAD is about as good as you're going to get in canada. it goes for as low as $140 USD, but ehh that's neither here nor there.

unless you're willing to deal with a rebate

    or

slightly better cooler, but from what I understand XFX and EVGA have more or less the best warranties in the industry(just register the card as soon as you get it) with BFG still being up there. I'm not too sure about galaxy's warranty policy, though it'd probably be good enough.

then again you guys get taxed horrendously so that might null out any savings... just throwing options at you. Lord knows I'm not omnipotent. you're going in the right direction though.

just a heads up though, but ATi and nVidia are due out with new high ed cards next month. don't know if this will generate some price cuts for the current line up or not though.

yes. the g92 revision has a more efficient core overall. the downside is that the chip has 33% fewer memory lanes to save on overall card cost

    G80 GTS
    960SPs @ 650mhz
    320bit bus
    640mb decent RAM

    G92 GTS
128 SPs @ 750-800mhz(also the shader processors are in some cases 10-20% more efficient)
    256bit memory bus
    512mb faster RAM

I wonder why nobody wants to agree in simple terms which one is the best Graphic Card so that people are able to view the threads and don't bother making a new one.. *sigh*
