multiplier doesn't mean ---- when you have fast enough ram. a lot of 144s have been hitting 3.0 ghz lately too. 280mhz*10/(9/10)=3.11ghz you're paying 150% of the price for just a single extra multipier, it's single core, it will be obsolete if it isnt allready and you'de have to run on a 9/10 divider to get any higher than 3.08 anyway and what's to say that it's even capable of 3 on air? you don't need to take it to that extreme anyway as it suts CPU life, an undervolted opteron at 2.8(if you get lucky) is more than sufficient
well so far it looks like you got a good build but individual prices would work.. <_< but it's a good set-up
Thank you for shutting up people, Xelink... I was actually waiting for you, or Diablo. actually, now that I remember, I have a Creative SBLive! card, so that shall surfice nicely. If not, I'll just use the onboard. Can anyone suggest a nice 3-piece speaker, mine is getting rather old, still works great, but I want a new look, not the crappy white ones I have.... doesn't match anything.... What does the 165 run at, before OCing?
I have a Sound Blaster Live 24 Bit and it has much better audio than onboard ... and its less than $30. AMD Operton 165 runs at 1.8 GHz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103588 As for speakers ... I bought these and they are awesome ... they were on sale on newegg for like 34.99 when I bought them ... just wait for a good deal: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3371490 These are nice speakers too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16836116120
1.8ghz but it has 2*1mb cache... it would essentially be called an x2 3600+ if it was named as an athlon. The one I got has been phenominal, Ihave it undervolted to 1.275(as opposed to stock 1.3-1.35) and at 2.6ghz prime stable for 4+ hours(accidently tapped the reset switch and too lazy to test further) on the CPU specific test. Also, the stock fan on it is excellent, compareable to a 40-50$ aftermarket fan. I haven't done a huge amount fo testing, but so far I am very happy with it. Will test further to see fi ti's stable at 1.25 or 1.26V... just checking around newegg, the people witht he worst OC are still getting it to about 2.5ghz on stock cooling, and I've heard that the latest batch of opterons came out really well... AMD Official: "hum... the FX60s haven't been selling well, what are we going to do with all these extra K8 cores?" 2nd Official: "just rebrand them and sell them to the server market" my zen nano is getting file system errors and doesn't want to reformat... heh... time for a new one... also, if youg et the ultra-D the video cards tend to slightly cover the chipset fan, you want as small of a card as possible, the MSI card you picked out is HUGE, covers two slots... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130017 that, it's 1$ more(WOW!!! like it matters) is clocked higher, and has a 20 buck rebate. if you do decide to go SLI for some reason, you will be glad you went for the smaller card anyway. and I will warn you, ALL mail in rebates are a pain in the ass don't count on them for much, if you don't receive rebate info, then complain for it. EDIT: you are getting this all in 3-4 months right? WTF, you crazy, go for AM2 or get a Core Duo(conroe) proc, the 2.4Ghz conroe part is speced to be 315$ on release, I don't care who you are that's better bang/$ than the Opteron 165 considering all its enhancements and features(like hyperthreading done right not the BS p4 way) and a proposed 10-20% performance/clock increase over yonah(which was on par with the Athlon x2s albiet slightly behind) even if you don't get a conoe part, wait for AM2(which is out sooner I beleive and offers improved performance/clock over the 939s and offers more future flexibility)
ok, I don't really care about the rebates... I edited my first post for the gfx card... Edit: I never, ever, ever buy new hardware, or software, when it first comes out. there are few reviews on it, and nobody really played with it yet... Edit2: when I have around 1,500, I'll revive this post, and ask for any better stuff. For now, I'll rest on this.
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31179 all i have to say is I rest my case... and for the record, my spare comp with an A64 3000+ and a half gig of ram does it in 48...
I suggest you pick from a proven list of working PSU's for DFI builds, http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854 As for a LCD, i highly recommend this one as its the best LCD for gaming. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824116375 If not you should wait for OLEDs.
past 16ms responce time an diference is more or less negligeable 16ms translates to 60fps 12ms translates to 90fps 8ms translates to 120fps 4ms translates to 240fps 2ms translates to 480fps trust me 60 fps is nice and smooth, 12ms or perhaps 8ms is all you really need.
