I'm hoping to start the 3d gfx stuff and was wondering by anychance, if someone could tell me the differences between the free program Blender and cinema 4d (which is the only program I've seen people use) Although, I'm already aware that C4d is obviously better, I'm just wondering how much of a difference there is between the two programs.

    Blender

    Thank you.

*note, I'm in no way asking for a cracked copy of c4d just wondering about the differences since everyone here busts out c4d :J

Don't know much about Blender myself... I do use Cinema 4D and happen to like it. If you do want a paid program for free.... meaning it's in no way illegal, Daz3d is giving out Bryce 5 for free and if you sign up for Artzone you can upgrade it to 5.5 for only 20 dollars instead of 120. Bryce makes some really neat looking abstracts, landscapes and models as well. The materials are beautiful in Bryce as well.

Here's the link if you want to try out the free version of Bryce...http://www.daz3d.com/newsletter/2006/weekly/newsletter8_22_06_44.html?trid=363237204

I haven't heard much about Blender in any case. Hope I was of some help.

Wow, pretty nice! Looks like Blender certainly is up to par with Cinema 4D and 3DSMax in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. :D

If it has the feature of how to save it as a dif file. Im sure the file type for blender is some weird thing like .bld or somtin.

Well, Blender isn't up to par with programs like C4D, 3DS and Maya. You cán do cool stuff with it, but programs like Maya are just further.

From looking at their website, Blender looks like a great program. Most especially because it's totally FREE, Open Source. It looks like it can do most things and do them well. It's certainly not Maya or 3DS but those cost an arm and a leg. As a free alternative, I'd say it does a pretty darn good job looking at some examples of people's work with it.
