I have a feeling my computer has a firewall. Ok, first of all, I DONT want a firewal for personal reasons. I've checked windows firewall, its off. I've uninstalled all antivirus/firewall softwares but it still exists.

How I know that my computer is behind some firewall? Well, for one thing, I cant use my FTP client. It states that I cant connect or somesort. Also, when I try to update definition lists for my anti-spyware softwares, it cant connect to the remote server. I have to update them manually which is a pain in the ass. Anti spyware softwares I use : Spybot, ad-aware, spy sweeper, AVG. They all give the same problem.

So please help, I need to get rid of this "virtual" firewall or whatever that's blocking me.

Another problem. I like to leave my computer on forever. BUT, whenever it remains idle for a few hours, I'd come back to some error msg. Then, my computer hangs, the wallpaper disappears and I have to restart. The error message includes the following :

    explorer.exe
"Blah blah blah (0x32409fv) referenced memory at (0x0000000). Blah blah blah"

One thing I noticed, that the address of the first memory changes but the second one is always "0x0000000". I just upgraded my RAM but I doubt thats the problem from what I've researched. Any helpers? Thanks.

install your antivirus, you need that, unless you want viruses lurking on your computer.

go to start -> run -> type msconfig
-> go to the startup tab ->check off the firewall program

now it will not start anymore.

as for the memory error, run memtest.

    damn...

try putting that file into c:\windows\system32

    see if that works

otherwise, you might have a virus, try scanning in safe mode...
