My friend just won a lawsuit by pressing charges against a kid who stole his copyrighted materials. It can be done pretty easily.

Was it an online person that he had absolutely no clue who that person is? Doubt it.

Was the copyright in HIS name, or an internet alias?

It doesn't matter. HE owns the materials, it's copyright-him. As long as he can supply proof that he is the original creator of it then it is HIS and only his and someone STEALING that work is against the law.

In your above post you just said it didn't happen in America. Copyright laws differ from nation to nation. Just like how downloading copyrighted files being illegal or legal differ from nation to nation. Just because you can get a copyright easily in say Germany, doesn't mean you're going to have the same ease in Norway.

Yeah I get the distinct feeling that this kid lives here in the states. which makes him susceptible to American copyright law.

Yeah, but you can't copyright materials based on internet alias alone, unless you copyright it to that name... which has to then be registered to your legal name.

No, I can comprehend just fine. You people are just stuck in your ignorant ways.

No, ignorance isn't an excuse, but it IS likely that he happened to skip over them. Sometimes I don't even realize there's a Readme unless I distinctly look for it.

Once again, read the thread over. He explains why he didn't credit the author. While this may be a lie, I'm just giving the kid the benefit of the doubt. (OMG... I just repeated myself)

I'm not arguing that it was to save his reputation, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that it's no longer posted. That's the whole point I'm trying to get across. It's not a very difficult thing to understand.

Edit: Omitted two words by mistake. [/b][/quote]
you would have to be blind not to see the readme, and even on da it says do not rip and what you are saying about him crediting me. i dont care because i distinctly said, DO NOT ALTER THE SIG IN ANY WAY which means that even if he did credit me, which he didn't. it would not make a single difference. this guy needs to be banned and dont bother defending him because there is NOTHING you can say that will justify his actions.

hey j, its the internet kid, get a life. i don't sit here and spell perfect for little bitches like you.

    Oh and hey.

    http://www.whatiscopyright.org/

    Look at that, read it.

any material posted or put on the internet is automatically copyrighted to the owner of it. and can be sued for if ripped. Oh and its not hard to find out name n where you live and ect, ips and other sites are very resourceful :)

It's still possible that he skipped over it.

Yes, you said not to alter it. Again, he CLAIMS that he didn't see it. While, again, it's a lame excuse, it's entirely plausable.

If he knowingly did it, then sure, ban him, but I'm still defending my point... not him.

Also, I'm not justifying his actions... I've said that more than once already.

Proper grammar and spelling is a good habit to get into, try it sometime.

I've seen the site, I know what a copyright is, and no, you can't just slap your internet alias on it and claim it as copyrighted. ----, I could claim that my alias is sick osiris, and then claim that I made those signatures, but the "other" sick osiris, just stole my work and registered a dA in my name.

You need proof to form a case... oh yeah, and someone to sue. You can't sue some internet person you have absolutely no information on. Unless you know who a person is, a lawsuit is not going to happen. You can try, though.

IPs are not as resourceful as you'd think. ISPs are not going to give you their client's information because they "stole" an intenet graphic.
