Do you guys think that this game will match up to the previous Final Fantasy games? I think it will be an awesome game, but 10 will still be my favorite when I beat it, don't know thats just my prediction. The graphics for the cutscenes look amazing, but lookin on ign, just looking at the graphics when they're battling don't look the best.

And the release date for it. On some sites I saw it say that the release date hasn't been announced yet and some say August 1, 2006...

    What do you guys think?

I've heard it will have battle system similiar/same as Kotor's battle system(Kotor-Knights of the old republic),and for me that is a big
    NO!
I would much rather go for CT(Chrono Trigger) battle system...

Well the battle system removed transitions between battles ie battle themes etc so its real time type BS :(

Well we wont know unless we have played it - But no FF games can beat FF7 and X :D

Graphics aren't going to make or break a FF game for me. The storyline is what interests me the most.

As for KOTOR, I liked it, but I wouldn't be happy if the FF Battle system was changed to match that of KOTOR.
KOTOR was a free roam battle system, atb turn-based but with action able to planned in advance, and an auto-attack.

Actually ff7 is one of the worst ff games...
    *sigh*
that materia system was so sucky...
Now,on the other side,ff6 and ff5 on snes, were really something.
Kefka was/is one of the best villains ever, unlike Sephiroth he does have balls to poison the whole city and use the "evil laugh".
X-Death is also a good villain, but then again i never passed ff5 so i don't know much about him =P

KOTOR is a great game, but the battle system of FF should stay turn based because that's how it's always been. I probaly won't buy FF12 if it's more "third-person."

Seeing as I'm not interested in arguing about which FF game was better (and seeing as you have Kefka as your avatar I can't see myself convincing you of anything .. they're both incredible games, I happen to prefer 7), I'll just comment that Exdeath was rubbish imo. He had very little depth, he was just your stereotypical "I'm an immortal evil mage wearing armour, mwah hah hah, I want to suck the world into the void so I can .. uh .. be alone in nothingness. BUT I'LL BE MORE POWERFUL!" villain. I think FFV's story overall wasn't incredible, the game mechanics were fun, and the characterization was above average, but Exdeath was the exception.

That is unless I'm forgetting something about him. I've played through it 2 or 3 times and nothing else springs to mind.

There's nothing really wrong with KOTOR's battle system, it's a sophisticated enough adaptation of the AD&D ruleset (3rd edition or something, might be wrong on this but that's the vague idea), like the combat in the Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale games, and even closer the combat in Neverwinter Nights. But the fact is that it is quite distant from any FF game.

FF like to change things drastically between games, but some frameworks at the least should be kept. I like the random encounter / battle systems of the FF games, I don't want to load up FFXII when it comes out and find that I'm playing a game with the same mechanics of Star Ocean 3 (whose battle system I hated with a burning passion). That said, I've rarely been let down by the FF series - FFX-2 being the exception.. but I still had a bit of fun. Moreso than Star Ocean 3..

How could i forgot to add IMO ???
Well,as i mentioned i didn't finish the game,i came to the part where you free him or something...in other words,i don't really know much about him =(
There isn't anything wrong with it,but i just "dislike" it =P
    FFX-2 was really...not needed...it was really stupid,nearly as stupid as "FF-Mystic Quest"...

I've never liked the gameplay of the older FF games. Idk, I think real time is much better. Is 12 gonna be RT?

It looks pretty good, the last FF game I've played was FF 9, so, I might get back to playing FF again. It looks fun anyways.
