how do I increase the size of my virtual memory? i have windows xp http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307886 /\that doesnt work for me i dont have a "change" button
Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab. In the Performance pane, click Settings. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change. Which should get you like mine. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.
it didnt work because i dont have a change button this is what i see i dont have service pack 2 do i need it ? im running on windows xp not vista
you do but it's choppped off. try making the window larger or scrolling some how. otherwise try pressing the tab buttona few times until you figure out where that button is and then pressing enter
administrator account? or the actual account called administrator that you seei in safe mode? I went up to SP2 but the computer is slower so that cancels the whole point of making the virt mem bigger
I'd personally advise you to purchase more RAM. That would make the largest diference. unless you're stuck with Rambus, RAM is rather cheap now.
it doesn't really improve performance though. all it does is dilute your RAM with harddrive filing so you don't' run out of RAM as quickly. It's basically just masking the inherent problem, a memory deficit.
