I usually use hibernation instead of turning my computer off, however, these past few days, it's been taking much longer to start up; maybe 2-3 minutes instead of the 10 seconds it took before. I have run a virus scan, and there's nothing on my computer; how do I fix this?
kill some of your un-needed programs... go to start-> run-> type msconfig go to the startup tab, and uncheck any programs that look suspicous or not needed at startup. Hibernate is not reccomended for day-to-day use. It is only needed when you are going to be away from the computer for a long time. also, it could be that your hard drive is getting full, delete some unused programs off there. Hibernation saves your memory to hard drive, so that may be the verdict...
Every time you hibernate it saves your current memory state to your hard drive, then when you turn it back on, it restores that info to your RAM. In essence, its like you're leaving your computer on non-stop without a restart. THe same programs keep running and anything that didnt get cleared from your RAM stays there, unlike a normal turnoff/bootup where the RAM is cleared each time. Try just turning your computer off the normal way, that'll start your RAM off nice and clean again. AS s xmaster said, its not optimal for day to day use...
