Ok so I'm currently living in Germany but I'm going back to the US in about a month. I've bought a few DVD's over here but I've heard they won't work in the states due to regional codes. Is there some kind of way to get them to work?

Bring your DVD player, I'm pretty sure it's for the player and not the dvd concerned.

I'm living with a host family, so I don't really think that they will appreciate me taking their DVD player XD.

You'll be able to play it on your computer, and there are region free DVD players. I bought a region free DVD player for like 30$ at Sears and then returned it after I watched this DVD which was from Germany.
