Read a tutorial... it'll tell you more than just what tool to use. Tutorials about the pen tool will be what you want to look at.

Pentool is a annoying tool - but one with the greatest potential

Can you imagine being the only one in an entire classroom who knows how to use it, while your teacher is trying to teach everyone to use it? Good thing it's so natural I finished my work early that day, because my teacher kept asking me to help her and the students . It also humbled me by reminding me how poorly I was at it when I first started out... You get so used to it that you forget that people who haven't used it before have no idea how to get the curves they need.

As it is, even my teacher, who is a photojournalist (minimal editing), understood that the pen tool is the tool to use - not anything with lasso in the name.

Pentool and poly lasso tool. I prefer the lasso tool because it can fit into a lot smaller places then the pen tool(good for hair).

Oh BTW I would look at the tutorials made by Huy-n.

The pen tool must be the easiest tool in Photoshop.... Why do people have so many problems with it?

Pen tool indeed.. Once you get experienced with rendering you'll be able to do faster cuts.

Huy-n is a bad ass renderer and he uses both the pen tool and the poly lasso tool.
