umm economic system has done fairly well for my family, both parents are independantly millionaires - not much help form their parents either. In America, if you work hard and save , you can get ahead(albiet at the expense of others(as in they pay rent, they buy a product etc. insteed of investing) who are too foolish to do the same) last time i checked america has the strognest economy in the world and the highest standard of living. You stated that republicans are dickheads. I woudln't exactly say that. I'd say pretty much all politicians are dickheads(I will say the medical system here is a bit messed up) I also agree witht he European model of not schooling people who are doomed to flip hamburgers at mcDonalds as well. allI was getting at is this- There are some who are not so stupid that they waste every cent they make. Those who fall under that category prefer an ecomonic system involving laissez faire policy. example given - I've saved about 60% of my pay from my job. my idiots friends have overdrawn bank accounts. What I'm getting at is this - Americans want government to ---- off and they desire their independance. Europeans beg men in pretty suits to take care of them
news for you, noone livining in an arctic waste land doesn't have a high standard of living in reality. Don't tell em that a .007 score fiderence out of 1 makes up for that my descendants left norway for a reason, likely having to do with the climate. same goes for the horid overcrowding of japan. austrlia, well i can think of no complaint such as that save for the sparactic weater due to winds from the antarctic but the primarily affects the southern half. i mistated something i guesse what i really meant was quality of life http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_of_life and what you listed was neither a listing of quality of life nor standard of living
That's same philosophy that underpins most western free market economies, including here in Australia. So the chance to work hard and do well materially, is apart of our economic system. The difference probably ends there tho,as we beleieve....and that is the most of the population... that paying higher rates of taxes to publically fund Education,Health and other public institutions is a small price to pay(thats the trade-off) so that all can share in at least some of the benefits of our economic prosperity. .And despite the current Governments insistence on privatising many of our valued assests, most people in a recent survey said they'd would forgo personal tax cuts offered by the govenmnent so they could be directed towards the very things that have been eroded under Governments stewardship. And it's my belief that we still think this way because we still have a strong sense of egalitarianism, as oppossed to the more laissez-faire approach that americans have. Yeah....of course they do (shakes head) No I didnt! I stated I was happy to see one of the architects of America's foriegn policy being shown the door, and I think you'll find it was a primary reason why Americans overwhemingly endorsed the Democrats in your Midterm elections. Cheers
They overwhelmingly suported the democratic party as an outlash against Bush. Post 9/11 Bush got a bit more agressive. I don't think anyone recals his record high approval rating prior to 9/11 he was the most popular president in the last 100 years. for about 1 year.
I do recall reading about his high approval during that period and it was a moment in American history....probably unlike no other, that needed a strong president to clearly state its intentions and response to that tragic event. I suppose since then tho, the course his admin has taken has become clearly unpopular, mainly because of american lives being lost and the lack of a clear exit strategy for Iraq. I've read that its has similar parallels to that other war in the 70's when your country got stuck in Vietnam Regardless... the whole problem in Iraq looks as desperate as ever and what ever your country does over the last years of bush's presidency, it will be along time coming before Iraq can be considered to be truely democratic. God help them until then
