Same except i exersize but still manage to not be able to gain wieght even when i lift heavy and hard. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week to lift and a do little bit of cardio to warm up but on the other days im at hockey doing cardio. Basically im just trying to get more toned but not bulky...
being toned is defined by having little fat and tight skin along with a moderate amount of muscle. unless you're loosing fat, you won't be getting more "toned" if you aren't getting bigger. contrary to popular belief high reps doesn't make you more cut while low reps makes you bigger. higher reps at lower weight generates mroe slow twitch muscle which has better endurance. This muscle is typically fairly dense. low reps for higher weight generates more fast twitch muscle which is typically larger but not as dense. if you your muscles are larger, you will look more toned at a given body fat percentage as your fat is spread further/intersperced between muscle tissue.
Going to the gym is a waste of time in my opinion. You should do a martial art instead. Not only will you also develop flexibility asides from gaining stamina but you will also be learning something useful. + it's social. You may not end up as bulky as a weightlifter but if you're just looking to be fit then you might as well spend your time learning something at the same time. Either that or get a job requiring physical labour. If you're going to be lifting/pushing objects you might as well get paid for it.
I wake up every morning at 6 in the morning to lift weights for Football. Who said a Gym isnt social? I go to the gym and we talk all the time.(I used to go before I got into highschool football) I also Wrestle for my highschool. Very fun and very physically challenging.
