There's very little professionalism at all to that method.

As for turning a template into CSS, this is my method. Whether other people who code in CSS use this method or not, I don't know.

Note, this is an extremely, extremely annotated run through.

Create the template in photoshop. This is so I know what the site will look like, and I then have the images that will be used (or most of them).

Once I have a final design, its off to Dreamweaver. You may have noticed, there is no exporting used. Imageready isnt used for generating any code. (In fact, I never use imageready).

And, put simply, its all a matter of recreating the site in coded form, going back to photoshop and taking parts of the template out and inserting them into the site. Anything that can be created using CSS will be made with CSS. There is no automated process for this, like Imageready's export option.

A big premise of CSS design is that you separate content from aesthetics. The actual content of the site is in the HTML document, while style related information is in the CSS document, so stripping the CSS leaves relativly pure content.

meh, I don't even make my sites in PS beforehand, I jsut see some inspiration and then go off making the site :P.

Anyway, if you want to learn CSS I'd suggest http://htmldog.com/

very good explanations and also has sections on HTML, which I'd assume you are using bad HTML as most people do ;) so it'll help that

    and once again: Amen :P

By bad HTML, he's referring to things that the world wide consortium (W3) have not deemed web standards appropriate. Things like the <marquee> tag, and attributes such as valign

hum, I'm glad I have an equal here :), makes it less of a hassle to explain CSS, thanks.

Anyway, you template doesn't need tables and probably needs maybe 1 image, excluding those 3 top boxes.

This is a very basic design. something I could probably make in less than an hour if I really tried, try using complex stuff, like sidebars (using float declarations and, if you prefer, position ones). That's when cross-browser compatibility comes in. Since Firefox complies to the W3C standards, therefore a min-height is needed, while in IE it compensates for that by screwing th float model up and making th holder <div> stretch with the floated content.

Anyway, I have veered way off-topic, sorry :P

    Thanks for that guys.

The thing is i don't use Dreamweaver, i just use Notepad.

As i said before i just save the Image ready, sliced template as a web page and images and then edit the images in notepad allowing me to insert text.

I am currently working on this template. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wond...dex_antirip.jpg so to code it and add text i will open it with note pad and edit it with html.

That was is still using the tables provided with image ready i think.

So what your saying is, by using Css , the text doesn't interfear with the actual template it's self ?

Is there anyway to code a template - like i posted, using css but without dreamweaver ?

Dreamweaver is by no standard a necessity, its just makes things much easier (it will predict what you want to type as you type it, help you remember certain aspects of code, and if you're lazy, take care of things with the WYSIWIG editor.)

I cant really see the template very well because of its size, but its looks relatively easy to CSS-atize (I should copyright that word...).

I hope no one minds I give some of my sites I've made in css as examples of CSS design...
