If Diablo 2 was not a MMORPG, then what was it? The definition of MMORPG is Massively Multiplayer Online RPG, and that is exactly what Diablo 2 was.
Have you lost your mind? Diablo 2 was mainly a single player game, with a battle. net mode where you could join servers online. a MMORPG is a persistent world, not like different games created, instead remove all the lobbies, and go directly into a world. (Check out games like Lineage 2, world of warcraft, guild wars, etc.)
Maybe I have.... Anyways, I see your point, even though I never played D2 offline. I was thinking of MMORPG of being massively multiplayer, which is what D2 is, however I forgot about the persistant world that exists in MMORPGs. Oh, and I wouldn't mind Diablo 3 being a MMORPG, although it would be very different from the previous games. Blizzard did it with Warcraft, perhaps Diablo is next?
Thing is, the MASSIVELY part is the thing that D2 lacks =P That's also one of the reasons D2 owns. MMORPGS always get out of hand and gets less fun and more grind. (example: WORLD OF WARCRAFT. And I don't care how mainstream it is, because those arguments just prooves the 'Follow the cool guy' arguments about why WOW is popular...
D3 should stay the same like D2 except improvements on everything, if it's MMORPG, you'll see too much WoW-like crap and Blizz made WoW and like... it'll be the same thing
i heard d3 was supposed to be a first person game like morrowind lol. just a rumor but that would be kinda cool imo
That would never be true. If diablo ever would be anything else than top-down perspective, it wouldn't be a true diablo game to the hardcore fans.
exactally ive been playing off and on near its release in 2000 MMORPG just wouldnt feel right in a Diablo game I think that they just need to patch and update the current one, because unless Blizzard has something new.....its kinda pointless....
